Re-Enrollment 2012-13

DominicDear Parents,

One of our plans to improve and streamline the communication at GAIS during the school year 2011/2012 was to provide an online re-enrollment process for our community. This new online process gives us on the one hand the opportunity to be more efficient in data entry and on the other hand an excellent tool to create all the different directories and statistics and to track enrollment.

To do this, first we had to meet the legal requirements and we revised the language and the format of the re-enrollment contract. Second, we had to develop a webpage and the forms, which are linked to several attributes and tables in the database. Finally, we tested it and finalized it. Now it's ready for you. I would like to thank Susi Lindley for her support in this process.

Next week we will send out a web link for the 2012/13 re-enrollment process. The link will lead you to the online platform. After you click on it, you will be asked to create a login to be able to start the re-enrollment process. Please note that you need to fill out an online form for each child, which will be submitted electronically to our new database. You'll get an automatic e-mail confirmation.

We are asking you to provide us with a lot of information now, which we'll use to populate many documents next year, reducing the amount you'll have to provide in the future.

To qualify for the returning family discount, please be sure to complete the re-enrollment by Friday, February 10th, 2012. The sibling enrollment deadline is Wednesday, February 15th, 2012.

Next year, our goal is to add more convenient elements to the online re-enrollment procedures such as online deposit payment, submitting updated health records and fieldtrip authorization forms.

I would like to thank you very much for your trust in us.

Sincerely,

Dominic Liechti

PYP Corner by Maike Silver

Let's boogy!

Music is an effective teaching tool to introduce and reinforce concepts, as well as to inspire and motivate students. This coming Tuesday the BANANA SLUG STRING BAND will come to our school to perform and teach our students about local environmental issues. They integrate music, poetry, drama, and movement with hands-on science. This is something we as a PYP school can truly appreciate.

Preschool Corner by Heike Schmalstieg

While we have just started a new year, we are already gearing up for the next school year. Parents will receive their re-enrollment info next week.

I want to encourage parents with children entering "Vorschule" in the coming year to attend the info evening on January 11th, in the gym. There will be a presentation about the Vorschule to make the program more transparent. I encourage all preschool parents to come at 6:30 PM to hear the guest speaker on "Setting Limits." All program presentations will follow at 7:30 PM.

I will also hold a parent coffee on Friday, Jan. 13th, in the library from 8:45 to 9:45 AM to answer questions about the Vorschule.

Parents who are interested in the preschool are also invited to our Speaker/Info Evening on January 11th, and are encouraged to call the school to schedule a tour of the preschool.

Student Leadership Team

Crazy Hair Day

Crazy Hair DayThe student leadership team has been busy planning another event that will foster school spirit. On Friday the 13th of January the question of the day will be: How crazy can your hair get? There are many ways to get creative, from hair gel or spray to pipe cleaners, wigs, and straw, to name just a few. Let's show our spirit and be part of crazy hair day.

New Child Car Seat Law in Effect

BoosterThe state's new child booster seat law went into effect Jan. 1, requiring parents or drivers transporting a child under the age of 8, or less than 4 feet, 9 inches in height, to be in an appropriate child passenger restraint system.

The law replaces a requirement that all children under the age of 6, or less than 60 pounds, be secured properly in a rear seat with a child booster.
