Graduation Day At GAIS

grad 2011The Grade 8 Graduation took place this past Wednesday in the school gym.  On hand as guest speaker was Michael Ahrens from the German Consulate in San Francisco.  Mr. Ahrens congratulated the students and remarked that they were well prepared for a wide variety of High School programs as a consequence of their attending GAIS.  The real demonstration of this, however, could be seen in the student speeches.  Each graduate gave a lengthy speech in both German and English and showed an impressive quality of thought, presentation and poise which underscored the education they have received at GAIS.  The graduates and where they will attend High School are:

Sara Groenke (Gunn High School)

Lieselotte Bensen (Gymnasium in Germany)

Michael Rogenmoser (Gymnasium in Switzerland)

Olivia Pintz (Menlo-Atherton High School)

Michelle Jacoby (IB at Sequoia High School)

Alexa Joshua (French American High School)

Each graduate was presented with a gift by the 6th and 7th graders.  Upon their exit from the gym, the graduates where honored by all the GAIS students with a bubble parade.

SAT 10 Results Show Great Improvement In Almost All Areas

The SAT 10 tests were taken this May by our students in Grades 6, 7 & 8.  This is the second year that we have taken the SAT 10th edition.  Prior to this year our students took the SAT 9th edition.  The Stanford Achievement Test, usually referred to simply as the "SAT 10" is one of the leading standardized achievement tests utilized by school districts in the United States for assessing children from kindergarten through high school.  It is used to measure academic knowledge of elementary and secondary school students. The test is available in many levels that roughly correspond to the year in school. Each level of the test is broken into subtests or strands covering various subjects such as reading, listening comprehension, mathematical problem solving, procedures and language. The SAT 10 is more comprehensive than previous editions and includes a writing sample as well as spelling and listening.

These numbers represent the class average given as a national percentile ranking with 50% being the national average. The number in brackets ( ) is the result from last year's test. All numbers are rounded to nearest whole number.

Host Families for Interns

GAIS regularly has a number of interns working with our teaching staff as a means of gaining experience in an international context.  Interns are University students studying education and many have exceptional training and motivation. They are a great help to teachers and provide support for our students. They also help out in the home with homework and child care. Detailed information about the internship program is available from our website under careers.  We are currently looking for Host families the new school year starting in August.  If you are interested in hosting an Intern, please contact Susi Lindley at slindley@gais.org
