Judge Rules on Millcreek Dispute

Last week court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Dunlavey issued his ruling on an ordinance regarding emergency ambulance service in Millcreek township. Last year Millcreek supervisors attempted to pass an ordinance which would have made it a crime for EmergyCare to provide emergency medical services in Millcreek Township. At that time Judge Dunlavey issued an injunction that put that ordinance on hold until he could make a ruling on its legality.

In his ruling issued last week Judge Dunlavey ruled that the Millcreek ordinance violated both Pennsylvania and United States Constitutions and is therefore unconstitutional.

Glenn Brown, EmergyCare's Director of Support Services, said, "EmergyCare is completely satisfied with Judge Dunlavey's decision, allowing the residents of Millcreek Township the right to choose an emergency medical service provider and allowing EmergyCare to continue our life-saving mission to Millcreek Township."

Millcreek residents who wish to have EmergyCare respond to their medical emergencies should continue to call 870-1000 to have EmergyCare respond directly. EmergyCare can provide residents with phone stickers, assistance programming their emergency speed dials and programmed emergency call boxes for senior living and community living settings.

EmergyCare and Community Blood Bank Team Up to Save Lives

On Tuesday, November 8 EmergyCare and the Community Blood Bank will kick-off a week long promotion to raise awareness of their compatible live-saving missions.

First Aid kit

Starting Tuesday morning the first 50 blood donors will receive a very valuable thank you gift for their caring gesture of giving blood:  an EmergyCare membership for their family, plus a first aid kit.

According to Todd Steele, Director of Operations, "This partnership really gets to the heart of the mission of both organizations.  Our EMTs and Paramedics are on-scene providing emergency care for accident victims and ill patients on a daily basis.  Many of the patients we care for will need blood when they arrive at the hospital.  A top-notch EMS system coupled with a plentiful blood supply provides residents of our area with the best chances for successful outcomes."
Besides the special membership gift for the first 50 donors on Tuesday, all week long from Nov 8 - 15 all blood donors have chance to enter drawing for a thank you gift basket valued at over $250.  It includes a night's stay at the Avalon in their recently remodeled suites, an EmergyCare membership and several other EmergyCare goodies.

The Community Blood Bank is open Mon - Fri 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

State and Regional Recognition Earned

Recently three EmergyCare employees and one board member have been recognized with prestigious honors.  On Thursday, October 13 the Pennsylvania EMS Provider Foundation hosted their fifth annual EMS 911 Event at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, PA.  The festivities included recognition of eighteen Stars of Life from EMS providers across the state.  Shalan Anderson, Communications Supervisor, and Dave Leicht, Fleet Manager, were both recognized as Stars of Life for their commitment to EMS.  We are proud of Shalan and Dave for being shining examples of dedicated service to our mission.

The Northwestern PA Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) recently announced their honorees for the upcoming National Philanthropy Day celebration.  Honorees this year will include Clarence Kearney, board member, and Jennifer Farrar, Director of Development.

Since 1985 AFP Chapters across the country have set aside November 15th each year to spotlight philanthropy in their community.  Many chapters, including the regional Northwestern PA Chapter, do this with annual awards programs.  This year Clarence Kearney and his wife Sandy are being recognized as Outstanding Philanthropists.  Jennifer Farrar is being recognized as Outstanding Fundraising Professional.  The awards will be presented at a lunch event at the Ambassador Conference Center on November 15.  A special note of congratulations to Saint Vincent Health Center and its employees who are also being honored at the same event for Outstanding Philanthropic Organization.
