Prayer Line
At Pope John, our school community lifts each other up in prayer during times of need. If you have a prayer request, or to join the prayer line, please email atm8789@sbcglobal.net.

We are pleased to announce that after a careful discernment process, we have selected a new Board of Directors for Pope John XXIII High School. They were selected on Saturday, September 22 from a very strong pool of applicants, and will be officially installed at the all-school Mass on October 11th, the feast day of Blessed John XXIII. Our new board is as follows:

1. Campus Ministry News
Attention Freshmen! This Wednesday is your freshman retreat. Remember that you are responsible for your own transportation. Plan to be dropped off at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic church at 8AM and picked up at 3PM. Breakfast & lunch will be provided. You may wear jeans and a PJ tee or polo. Donations of fresh baked goods are appreciated!
The Pro Life club announces the 40 Days for Life! Beginning this Thursday, we will be celebrating life with a variety of activities throughout the 40 days. Stay tuned for details!
Campus Ministry is in need of volunteers to coordinate refreshments for our upcoming Lecture Series which will begin the evening of October 11th. Please contact Ms. DeMois for details.
Pope John XXIII is very blessed have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament a couple times per month, usually on the first and third Fridays. Parent volunteers are needed to sign up to adore Christ in the Eucharist for hour time slots, allowing the students to come and go to adoration as fits their schedules. Volunteers sign up as fits their schedules throughout the year. If you would like to be on the email list of volunteers for adoration, please email Becky Neeson at atm8789@sbcglobal.net.

2. Raffle Volunteers Needed
Our 2012-2013 school raffle is in the works, and we are in need of parents from each House to assist in the ticket distribution, collection, and tallying for the year. If you are available to help out in any capacity, please contact Julie Koch, the 2012-2013 Raffle Coordinator, at jkoch8654@gmail.com.

3. Aloha! 2013 Gala
Gala preparations are underway! Please join us for our kick off meeting on Friday, September 28th at 8:00am in the New Gym Foyer. We are excited to share our plans and volunteer opportunities for this year's gala which will be held Saturday, February 9th, 2013.

4. Lunch News
Lunches for this week and next will be hosted by various clubs and organizations on campus. Cash is preferred, but you may still use your lunch account my signing up online at www.mylunchaccount.com and completing the registration with your correct contact information and payment. Lunch on Tuesday, September 25 will be pizza and lunch on Monday will be grilled cheeseburgers, chips, and dessert for $5, courtesy of the band.

5. Roar Store News
The Roar Store is up and running! We now offer a bigger and better selection of apparel! We have a new selection of different style shirts including a baseball shirt, a camp shirt and a Henley shirt. A new selection of performance polos is also available in both ladies' and men's styles. Redesigned t-shirts featuring the new Pope John logos are also available.
New school spirit items are being developed and should be available in the next couple of weeks. The Roar Store also offers a limited selection of school supplies such as composition and spiral notebooks, index cards, pens and pencils, binder and graph paper, as well as microwavable lunch items, snacks and drinks. Stop by and check out the Roar Store. The store is open every day before school and during lunch.
The Roar Store still needs a few more volunteers who would be able to work the store after school. If you can volunteer for 20 minutes or so after school, 3:00 - 3:20, please contact Shelley Reiter at shelreiter@yahoo.com.

6. Electronics Recycling
Don't toss out those old phones, computers, or ink cartridges! This year, Pope John is collecting used electronics, ink cartridges, and jewelry for recycling and will receive fundraising dollars for the technology department for every item donated. Bring your items to the business office and drop them off in the marked box! Every little bit helps both the school and the environment. 7. Katy Rice Harvest Festival Parade
Mark your calendar for the upcoming RICE HARVEST FESTIVAL PARADE on Saturday, October 6. Our theme is "Rice Ta Meet Ya!" Fun times for the entire PJ school body! We will meet at Pope John at 7 a.m. to decorate the float and trucks, caravan to Old Katy for the parade with our marching band, and then return to school by noon. We need parents to drive and walk with the group. Donations of new or recycled Mardi Gras beads and bags of covered candies are also needed (please send to the art room). Students MUST have signed participation forms to participate, which will be ready closer to the time of the event. Come and join us with top hats and mustaches! Contact Ms.O'Donnell, art teacher, at codonnell@pj23.org for more information. Planning meetings will begin Monday, September 10, after school.

8. Cross Country News
The PJ cross country team stayed close to home Saturday, running in the Faith West Hills Cross Country meet. The Varsity Girls team of Kara Christopherson, Maria Gonzales, Brandie Guice, Hailey Justus, Bethany Villafranca, Bethany Vuyk and Emily Yoder placed third.
Maria's third place finish and Emily's fourth place earned them individual medals in the Varsity Girls Division.
Jadzi Roopchand, a recent addition to the team, won her first cross country medal, placing 12th in the JV Girls Division, while Freshman Kyle Smith earned his first medal, finishing 14th in JV Boys.

9. National Honor Society
The National Honor Society will induct its new members on October 1, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the school. Students who are to be inducted must arrive by 6:00 p.m. and be in "church worthy" clothing.

10. Senior News
It is very important that all senior parents contact Julie Koch regarding the Katy Rice Festival. This is one of the biggest fundraisers for the senior class. It is very important that all of our families participate. Julie can be reached via email at jkoch8654@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting our seniors.

11. Yard Signs and Car Decals
Cheer is running the Custom Yard Sign and Window Decal fundraiser again this year! Attached is the order form which can be filled out and returned to the office. Samples of the signs are attached to the forms and we will have samples at the table as well. The yard signs are 60.00 each (+8.25% tax), with no limit on the number of activities included. Window decals are 13.00 each (+8.25% tax). Please make checks payable to PJHS Cheer. |

12. Chick-fil-a Breakfasts
Starting Tuesday, August 21, the senior class will be selling chicken breakfast biscuits from Chick-fil-a before school on Tuesdays. Make sure to support the class of 2013!

13. Katy Gift Market Fundraiser
The Lion Pride Band is selling tickets to the ever popular Home For The Holidays Gift Market, which will be held at the the Merrell Center in Katy November 16th - 18th. Tickets cost $6.00 each and proceeds will go towards purchasing new instruments for the band. So grab your friends and plan to shop til you drop! Contact Patti Smith at pattismith@consolidated.net.
