Prayer Line
At Pope John, our school community lifts each other up in prayer during
times of need. If you have a prayer request, or to join the prayer line,
please email pj23prays@yahoo.com.

Mr. Petersen will be hosting the first Coffee with the Principal this Tuesday, September 18, at 7:45 a.m. All parents are invited to come, mix and mingle with other parents, and to learn about how the school year is going so far and what exciting things we have planned for the rest of the year!

1. Campus Ministry News
Are you interested in learning how to improve your prayer life? Our LOV group will host a guest speaker, Fr. Reynolds from St. Theresa, this Tuesday after school in room 114. All girls are welcome!!
Our Freshmen Retreat will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26 at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church from 8AM-3PM. Students may wear jeans and a PJ tee shirt. Also, students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the retreat. Permission forms & checks are due this Wednesday.
There will be a LOV meeting for our young ladies this Wednesday during lunch! Bring your lunch to Room 204!
Campus Ministry is in need of volunteers to coordinate refreshments for our upcoming Lecture Series which will begin the evening of October 11th. Please contact Ms. DeMois for details.
Our Pro Life club will be meeting this Thursday during lunch to plan our activities for the upcoming "40 Days for Life". Bring your lunch & your ideas to room 213.

2. Raffle Volunteers Needed
Our 2012-2013 school raffle is in the works, and we are in need of parents from each House to assist in the ticket distribution, collection, and tallying for the year. If you are available to help out in any capacity, please contact Julie Koch, the 2012-2013 Raffle Coordinator, at jkoch8654@gmail.com.

3. Lunch Accounts
The online lunch account system is up and running! Contact Ann Justus for your students' ID number and you can set up an account online, add additional funds when required, and see a transaction record. If you do not set up an online account at www.myschoolaccount.com, your student will no longer be able to purchase lunch on credit until the account is created.
To make the lines shorter, parents may preorder meals by emailing Ann Justus.

4. Eucharistic Adoration
Pope John XXIII is very blessed have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament a couple times per month, usually on the first and third Fridays. Parent volunteers are needed to sign up to adore Christ in the Eucharist for hour time slots, allowing the students to come and go to adoration as fits their schedules. Volunteers sign up as fits their schedules throughout the year. If you would like to be on the email list of volunteers for adoration, please email Becky Neeson at atm8789@sbcglobal.net.

5. Roar Store News
The Roar Store is up and running! We now offer a bigger and better selection of apparel! We have a new selection of different style shirts including a baseball shirt, a camp shirt and a Henley shirt. A new selection of performance polos is also available in both ladies' and men's styles. Redesigned t-shirts featuring the new Pope John logos are also available.
New school spirit items are being developed and should be available in the next couple of weeks. The Roar Store also offers a limited selection of school supplies such as composition and spiral notebooks, index cards, pens and pencils, binder and graph paper, as well as microwavable lunch items, snacks and drinks. Stop by and check out the Roar Store. The store is open every day before school and during lunch.
The Roar Store still needs a few more volunteers who would be able to work the store after school. If you can volunteer for 20 minutes or so after school, 3:00 - 3:20, please contact Shelley Reiter at shelreiter@yahoo.com.

6. Electronics Recycling
Don't toss out those old phones, computers, or ink cartridges! This year, Pope John is collecting used electronics, ink cartridges, and jewelry for recycling and will receive fundraising dollars for the technology department for every item donated. Bring your items to the business office and drop them off in the marked box! Every little bit helps both the school and the environment. 7. Katy Rice Harvest Festival Parade
Mark your calendar for the upcoming RICE HARVEST FESTIVAL PARADE on Saturday, October 6. Our theme is "Rice Ta Meet Ya!" Fun times for the entire PJ school body! We will meet at Pope John at 7 a.m. to decorate the float and trucks, caravan to Old Katy for the parade with our marching band, and then return to school by noon. We need parents to drive and walk with the group. Donations of new or recycled Mardi Gras beads and bags of covered candies are also needed (please send to the art room). Students MUST have signed participation forms to participate, which will be ready closer to the time of the event. Come and join us with top hats and mustaches! Contact Ms.O'Donnell, art teacher, at codonnell@pj23.org for more information. Planning meetings will begin Monday, September 10, after school.

8. Golf Tryouts
Boys and girls golf team tryouts will be held Monday, Sept 17th at Hearthstone Country Club. Our boys team is very competitive with a lot of experienced players returning so only those newcomers who can routinely break 100 should try out. 9. NHS Blood Drive
On Wednesday, September 19th, the National Honor Society will host their annual Blood Drive from 8 am - 2 pm in the practice gymnasium. To schedule an appointment, visit www.giveblood.org and login to Digital Donor. Enter Sponsor code U205.

10. Senior News
The poinsettia sale has begun. These are the most beautiful poinsettias from Brookwood. Every senior student should have received an order form. Make sure to get your orders in before the October deadline!

11. Yard Signs and Car Decals
Cheer is running the Custom Yard Sign and Window Decal fundraiser again this year! Attached is the order form which can be filled out and returned to the office. Samples of the signs are attached to the forms and we will have samples at the table as well. The yard signs are 60.00 each (+8.25% tax), with no limit on the number of activities included. Window decals are 13.00 each (+8.25% tax). Please make checks payable to PJHS Cheer. |

12. Chick-fil-a Breakfasts
Starting Tuesday, August 21, the senior class will be selling chicken breakfast biscuits from Chick-fil-a before school on Tuesdays. Make sure to support the class of 2013!

13. Katy Gift Market Fundraiser
The Lion Pride Band is selling tickets to the ever popular Home For The Holidays Gift Market, which will be held at the the Merrell Center in Katy November 16th - 18th. Tickets cost $6.00 each and proceeds will go towards purchasing new instruments for the band. So grab your friends and plan to shop til you drop! Contact Patti Smith at pattismith@consolidated.net.

14. Volleyball News
The JV Volleyball team participated in the Living Stones Christian School tournament this past weekend in Alvin. Of the 22 teams, the Pope John JV team won 3rd place in the Gold Bracket. They played very well together! In addition, Lindsay Casares received an All-Tournament medal.
