1. Family Commitment Opportunities
We are once again selling advertisements in the fall sports program. These ad sales count 100% towards your family commitment requirements, so make sure to solicit your favorite businesses or add in an ad of your own to help with your family commitment for the 2012-2013 school year!

The form for the fall sports program can be found on the school's website. The deadline is coming up soon (Friday, September 7), so make sure you don't miss this opportunity!
2. Kaplan Partnership

Pope John XXIII High School is pleased to announce that we have partnered with Kaplan for the 2012 - 2013 academic year. The Kaplan curriculum has been implemented in our ACT/ SAT Math and English courses in order to further prepare our students for college.

Additionally, freshman Math and English lab classes are utilizing Kaplan in order to supplement curriculum and build a strong foundation in these important subject areas.

Finally, as a result of our partnership, all Pope John XXIII students can take advantage of Kaplan PSAT, SAT, and ACT preparation for free. Simply log on to kaptest.com/kas and enter the following codes in the check out screen:

For PSAT: KAS1211PSAT

For SAT: KAS1211SAT

For ACT: KAS1211ACT

3. School Visitor Policy
Pope John XXII High School and its faculty and staff welcome visitors to our campus.  At the same time, we must provide for the safety and welfare of our students, faculty, and staff. School personnel will work to assure that parents and other visitors are courteously acknowledged and that genuine efforts are made to provide them with information as needed to promote our relationships between Pope John XXIII School and the community.

General Requirements for Visitors:

  1. All visitors must register at the front office when arriving or departing the campus during school hours.
  2. Any person who does not register at the school office will be asked to identify himself/herself and properly escorted to the front office.
  3. After completing the sign-in procedure, visitors will be issued a visitor's badge that must be in plain view.
  4. All visitors must comply at all times with Pope John XXIII High School policies, rules, and regulations

4. Theology Classes for Adults
Theology Classes for Adults will begin next month. Classes for ladies will be held every other week during A period (on Crimson Days) in Room 204. The men's class will be the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m., also in Room 204. If you have any questions about these classes, you can contact Mr. Mark Baker at mbaker@pj23.org.
5. New Sign on Grand Parkway

Our Paddles Up project from the 2012 gala was a huge success and raised much-needed funds for a new sign on the Grand Parkway.  We have received multiple bids for signs for the entrance from 99.  Due to the construction on the expansion of the freeway, the facilities committee wants to see the finished height of the of the freeway before deciding on the height of the sign.  A shorter sign similar to the one in the front entrance may be installed, or a taller sign visible from the freeway may be selected if the height and cost are within the budget constraints. If you have any further questions about this project, please contact Candace Brawner in the Advancement office.

6. College Application Information Night

College Application Process Information Night  -  Wednesday, September 12th at 6:30 pm in the Half Cafe.

This evening will provide senior students and their parents with the opportunity to meet Mr. Jeff Tesone, the new College Counselor, and listen to him speak about a variety of topics relating to the college admissions process.  Items covered will include applying to Texas public schools, identifying good private and out of state public school fits, reporting of standardized test scores, essay writing, and obtaining teacher recommendations.  Ample time will be provided at the end of the session for question asking and speaking with Mr. Tesone once the program has concluded.
