Prayer Line
At Pope John, our school community lifts each other up in prayer during times of need. If you have a prayer request, or to join the prayer line, please email pj23prays@yahoo.com.
Back to School Night will be held Tuesday, August 28 at 6:30 p.m. The evening will start with a welcome and introductions in the competition gymnasium, and the classroom program will run from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. All parents are welcome to come and meet the staff and their student's teachers for the 2012-2013 school year.

We have a new policy for the 2012-2013 school year to help make our school safer - all guests will be required to sign in at the front desk and receive a visitor's badge. Guests without badges will be escorted to the front office before being allowed to finish their business at the school. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us make a secure campus for our students to learn!

Below are your announcements for the week of August 20, 2012.

1. Family Commitment Opportunities
We are once again selling advertisements in our student directory and also adding advertisements in the fall sports program. Both of these ad sales count 100% towards your family commitment requirements, so make sure to solicit your favorite businesses or add in an ad of your own to help with your family commitment for the 2012-2013 school year!

The forms for both the student directory and the fall sports program can be found on the school's website. The deadlines are coming up soon (Wednesday, August 22 and Friday, September 7, respectively), so make sure you don't miss this opportunity!
2. Student Parking Permits
A notice about parking permits for the 2012-2013 school year.  Students may begin to pick up parking registration forms from Mrs. Hoth in the front office.  All information on the vehicle registration forms must be filled out before parking permits may be issued.  Student parking is $150.  Students must provide a valid driver's license (photo id) and a copy of insurance coverage.  No specific parking spots by number will be issued.  Students may park in any area on the west side of the building or on the east side of the new gym as long as they have a parking permit on  their vehicles.   Those spots designated for staff (west parking lot) and the parking spots in the circle in front of the building are off limits for student parking.
3. Lunch Accounts
The lunch line will be cash-only for the week of August 20-24 due to technical issues. Once they are resolved, each student will be receiving an account number and instructions on how to add money to the account through the online service. For more information, contact Mrs. Ann Justus.
4. New Sign on Grand Parkway

Our Paddles Up project from the 2012 gala was a huge success and raised much-needed funds for a new sign on the Grand Parkway.  We have received multiple bids for signs for the entrance from 99.  Due to the construction on the expansion of the freeway, the facilities committee wants to see the finished height of the of the freeway before deciding on the height of the sign.  A shorter sign similar to the one in the front entrance may be installed, or a taller sign visible from the freeway may be selected if the height and cost are within the budget constraints. If you have any further questions about this project, please contact Candace Brawner in the Advancement office.

5. Sports Program Kudos
We will be selling kudos in the fall sports program for anyone who wants to show their support for their favorite athlete, cheerleader, or band member! Kudos are available in quarter, half, and full page sizes. Kudos are due to Gillian Kruse in the Advancement Office by Friday, September 7.

Senior year is an exciting time for students and PJ23 has a number of traditions that highlight the uniqueness of being a Senior Lion.    There are several activities scheduled throughout the year both for our seniors and to raise funds for end-of-year activities.   Fundraising is primarily to offset the cost of prom and to have a Senior Fun Day after senior finals.   Lots of volunteers are needed for these activities - parents and students.  Please read the attached descriptions and return your volunteer form as soon as possible.    Thank you in advance for all your support.
------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a Facebook group for senior parents to get senior-related news, ask questions, and learn more about this exciting year! Go to the Facebook page and request to join, and you can get started
learning everything there is to be about being a senior parent!

14. Class of 2012 Gift
If you have not been in the new gym since the end of school last May, next time you are on campus, take a minute to check out the new graphics on the gym walls. As a gift to the school, the Class of 2012 purchased the vinyl lion designs and lettering that you will see on the south wall of the gym. In addition, the Class of 2012 purchased the lettering you will see in the main school building. The Class of 2012 would like to thank McCord Lithographic Concepts for their help in the design and installation of the graphics.
