Prayer Line
At Pope John, our school community lifts each other up in prayer during times of need. If you have a prayer request, or to join the prayer line, please email pj23prays@yahoo.com.
We are looking for someone to help us in an advisory or consulting capacity with a landscaping and irrigation project in conjunction with the new construction. Please contact Mr. Petersen if you could help with this or know of someone who can.

Have you heard? Our Lions are burning up the gridiron this season, winning their last two games 48-6 against The Woodlands Christian and 48-0 against Faith West. Keep up the good work, boys!

Below are your announcements for the week of September 6, 2011.
1. Family Commitment Fundraiser
We have started our next Family Commitment fundraiser of the 2011-2012 school year! We are selling Platinum discount cards for $20 each, valid for a year, which get you discounts at local businesses such as Red Robin, Smoothie King, Subway, and Jiffy Lube, along with many others. To pick up some cards to sell, or for more information, please contact Gillian Kruse in the Advancement Office.

ITS KATY RICE HARVEST FESTIVAL PARADE TIME for our PJ students and parents!! We are out to claim another "Best of Show" ribbon win for the third year in a row!! Mark SATURDAY OCT.1 on your calendar and plan to join us at school at 7:30 AM in order to decorate our flatbed trailer and trucks for our annual "parade walk 'n ride in Old Katy" led by our band, drum line and cheerleaders. We need parent helpers to both "caravan" and "walk and ride" with our students. We return to PJ by noon. AND we also need bags of new or recycled Mardi Gras beads! Please send those to Ms. O'Donnell in the art room. This is a guaranteed great time to show the community our Pope John spirit! Contact Ms. O'Donnell, PJ art teacher, at codonnell@pj23.org if you can help us with donations, beads, wrapped candies and/or parental time on Monday afternoons with the Art Club in the art room beginning Monday Aug. 29.

FESTIVAL GRAD GATE decorations for OCT. 8/9 (actual festival)- parental help needed to decorate a "winning gate" for our senior grads. Theme: festive fall design and colors.

FESTIVAL STUDENT PHOTO CONTEST - entries to be juried by Ms. O'Donnell. Have your student see her in the art room for details. Let's make this another spirited year and come back winners in all of the above!

3. Campus Ministry News

Let's cheer on our Lions this Friday evening as they take on St. Joseph's in Bryan.  We will have a bus heading out at 4:00pm for a cost of $20 per adult seat and $18 per student seat.  Please confirm your reservation with Mrs. DeMois in the Campus Ministry office by Thursday morning.  Permissions slips are required for all students.

Join us for the ADORE night of praise & worship at the Catholic Charismatic Center this Wednesday, Sept. 7th.  We will meet and carpool from the school at 6PM.  See Mrs. DeMois for a permission slip.

It's retreat time!  Our freshman retreat will take place at Epiphany Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 21st from 8-3.  The cost is $25.  Students will be required to provide their own transportation since the church is in the area.  Permissions slips will go home this week.

Our LOV club will be hosting an informational meeting for all mothers & daughters in our PJ cafeteria this Thursday evening at 6:00pm.  This "girls only" club meets weekly on Thursday afternoons from 3:15pm - 4:30pm to share, pray, snack, & simply have fun!  Hope to see you there!

Our next Pro-Life meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 8th at lunch.  We had a wonderful turnout at our last meeting and hope to see everyone there again!

4. Girls Basketball Information
The Girls basketball team will have a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 7th at 7:00 PM in the gym. Anyone that is interested in playing needs to attend this meeting with a parent/guardian. Also, the girl's basketball program is still doing workouts after school from 3:15-4:15. Please see Coach Llorens for more information.
5. Pope John Yard Signs and Car Decals
Show your Lion Pride with a personalized yard sign or car decal. The yard signs are $55 + tax and are sturdy and professional. They are perfect way to showcase your family's love for PJ23 and your child's interests from sports, to clubs, to other interests. Car decals are only $11 each + tax and are an easy way to show your spirit. Please look over the sample sheet and then complete the order form and send it to the school office with payment before the end of September. Wouldn't it be great to see Pope John spirit on cars and in neighborhoods all across the city? If you have additional questions, please contact Robin Palmer at rkpalmer62@hotmail.com.
6. Senior Class Fundraisers

The annual Poinsettia Sale to benefit the Pope John senior class is underway! The poinsettias are grown by the Brookwood Community and are available in red, pink, and white. The first plant is $13, and further plants are $12. Checks can be made out to Pope John XXIII with senior poinsettia sales in the memo line.

The Senior class needs your help.  We are looking for parents, family and friends of Pope John that have a home bases company such as  Pampered Chef, Scentsy or Thirty One.  If you would like to participate in fundraiser benefiting the Class of 2012, contact Jackie Sitton at jdsbill@sbcglobal.net or 713 540-5237.

Every Friday morning the senior class will be selling Chick-fil-A chicken biscuits for $2.75. Come hungry and support the class of 2012!
