for the Animals sanctuary
A special request to our friends
the goats grazing
Dear friends of for the Animals sanctuary,
Most of you know who I am but for those who don't, my name is Steve Heuer and I'm Debbie's husband and Treasurer of for the Animals sanctuary.  I usually try to keep a low profile and let Deb take the stage for most of our activities here at the sanctuary since she's so outgoing and such a terrific speaker but I need to touch base with all of you and ask an important favor for all of our rescued "babies" and all of the babies who still need to be rescued.  As you all know we depend on each of you for for the very survival of the sanctuary through your generous tax deductible donations throughout the year.

2010 has been an exceptionally hard year on the sanctuary financially.  We've had numerous unexpected injuries and illnesses all of which require immediate medical attention and as you know this can, and does, require hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for meds and vet calls.  We had to put up additional fencing for Boo boo and Brutus the two piglets we rescued last fall who are now in the 250-300 pound range and growing bigger each day. The fencing required a cash outlay of well over $6,000 to give the pigs a separate pasture since they were rooting up and destroying all of the pastures, making it impossible for the cows and goats to graze.  I'm happy to report to you that the fencing has done the job and the grazing pasture has fully recovered.  In addition to our normal feed and shelter expenses we had to invest several thousand dollars into a new building to accommodate and furnish shelter for Hope and Amy, the calf and cow we rescued earlier this year.

This brings me to my final and perhaps most important point.  Because of all of rescues this year we are filled to capacity and have no more room or shelter for any additional rescues.  As physically demanding as it is to maintain the sanctuary on a daily basis, it does not compare with the pain of having to turn away a beautiful, gentile animal in need of rescue because we cannot accommodate it.  I have some thoughts, ideas and plans that would expand our capabilities but it will require many dollars that we simply don't have.
So, here's the hard part which actually isn't so hard at all if we all pull together.  Hopefully, this email will be read by close to 600 of our wonderful friends and supporters.  If each one of you could find it in your heart to donate only $5 or $10 it would create a fund that we could use to begin a moderate expansion and make it possible to continue our rescue efforts and not have to say "no, we can't help you" to an animal that otherwise would be sent to slaughter.

If you can help, please do so today by sending us a tax deductible donation by check or through Pay Pal.  I know times are tough right now but I wouldn't be asking you for your help it it wasn't so critical a time for the sanctuary.
Thanks, in advance for all of your friendships and continuing support.

for the Animals,
Steve
