The MFC has had a fantastic first quarter and prepared to make the second even better!! Just a brief recap, we had another positive Month for Multi- family Stocks. During the month of March MFSI rose more than 26 points which puts us up more than 43% over the last 12 months. The total number of renters is up about one million on a year over year basis to 37.7 million!
This quarter, we will resume with additional Management and Maintenance education courses in June & July with Landlord Tenant Relations by Marie Moore of Sher, Garner, LLP, Tax Credit Compliance Education by Kate Fairchild of NDC Real Estate Management, Basic Flooring Maintenance by Flooring Depot & Commercial Floors, Basic Electrical by Phil Hoffman of Hoffman Homes & Brian Mills of Ronald L. Mills, Inc., and Leasing Consultants can be Techies too by Apartment Finder.
Finally, with all of that being said, there is only one thing left to do, and that's relax, kick back, and cool off with our Margaritaville Social coming up this summer, so stay tuned for details!!

In Remembrance of Curtis Eichman
The home building industry continues to say goodbye to its World War II veterans. Recently an icon in our association passed away, Curtis Eichman. He was 83. Curtis participated in the association till his passing. Even though he was 83 he continued to mentor young builders. Curtis was President of the HBAGNO in possibly its worst of times. When he was President mortgage rates were 17% and construction rates were 21%!. This seems to make our current recession pale in comparison. He lobbied the State and Federal lawmakers annually and is famous for telling "jumping" Jim Jefers, who changed parties changing the balance from Republican to Democratic, to drop dead. This won him a visit from the Capital Police but made him a legend in Louisiana Home Builders lobbying lore. He spoke his mind as this generation did and the current generation of leaders learned a lot from him. One other tradition for Curtis was he always adjourned the board of directors meeting of the HBAGNO. At the end of the business every President recognized him at which time he would say " Mr. President, I move we adjourn." Well he has made the last motion to adjourn and now enjoys his eternal reward for all his work for our industry. He will be sorely missed.
