Next Meeting: Friday, November 12th @ 6pm - Zenith Awards Location: Chateau Bourbon
The Multifamily Council is getting ready for its long awaited Registered in Apartment Management (RAM) Designation program coming up on Oct 12-14. If you are in property management, or are aspiring to be in property management, this is the perfect Professional Designation for you! We are excited to be bringing this designation back online and will continue to have this annually, possible bi-annually starting in 2011. At this year's RAM course we are hosting a national speaker, Brenda Asbury McClain, who has over 25 years of multifamily expertise. Additionally, we are bringing in Agent Darrell Berry of the State Attorney General's office, and Katherine Hoover with Jefferson Parish to teach the Fair Housing Act and ADA compliance segment of the course. If you are interested in taking this course it has been approved for 6 Real Estate Credits hours, or if you are interested in taking the Fair Housing segment independently of the RAM course, it has also been approved for 4 Real Estate Credit Hours. Please call Kathy for information or go online to our education page www.home-builders.org

Associates Council Mike LeCorgne, 2010 Chair
Next Meeting: Wednesday, October 6 @ 8:30am HBA Office
Associates, you will hear more about this in my HQ column, but I'd like to talk about the importance of Build-PAC. Associates typically represent about one-half to
two thirds of a local HBA, yet when it comes time to fighting for the
preservation of our industry, only 10% or less make any financial contribution
in this regard. I challenge each and every one of the associates with this
associate to match my $100 contribution to Build-PAC. If you can't INVEST $100
in your livelihood, you might be in the wrong business. We are in a fight for
our survival, and EVERYONE needs to help, not just a few. If you really can't
afford $100, commit to a lesser amount, that you can manage, but commit, commit
The Golf Tournament Committee has been working hard and is ready to host this year's event at English Turn Country Club on Tuesday, October 5. Anyone wanting to come and join the fun by playing, sponsoring, volunteering, or just hanging out, CLICK HERE to download the registration form!

Membership Committee Riley Babin, 2010 Chair
Next Meeting: Wednesday, October 6 @ 8:30am HBA Office
The membership committee held its most recent General Membership Meeting at the WWII museum in the warehouse district in New Orleans. WOW! What a fantastic turnout we had with over 90 members in attendance. Not only was this a fantastic venue with outstanding food by New Orleans' own Chef John Besh, but we had also had a very positive presentation on economic development by the President of the New Orleans City Council, Mr. Arnie Fielkow. The biggest treat of all was real-life, candid stories told by the 4 WWII Heroes that call themselves the A-Team. Additionally, we were honored by a guest of Phil Hoffman's, Mr. Murphy Laiche, who was in his full Marine dress who gave us his personal story and perspectives on his experience was a WWII hero. What a fabulous event this was!! We will be back next year on Dec 7 - a significant date for Americans in WWII. Don't miss it!! We would also like to thank our Sponsors again for helping to make this event possible: Southland Plumbing & Lighting, Kohler, Southern Forest Products Association, Yellawood and Sequoia Outdoor Supply.

Associate Spotlight
David Gaspard Floorco, Inc. DIRECT TO THE TRADE
David is pictured here at the MARDI GRAS themed Associates Council meeting in February 2010.
5729 B Salmen Street Harahan, LA 70123 Phone: (985) 809-3000 Fax: (504) 733-7906
Floorco, Inc. Direct to the Trade began in 2002 as a floor
covering store devoted to the trade professional. The concept is to offer the
best selection at the best price to builders, contractors, remodelers, interior
designers and property managers. David Gaspard, owner of Floorco, believes that
getting involved with the trade professionals through trade associations is the
best marketing available. "I felt and have been successful at marketing to my
target market using trade associations such as the HBA of Greater New Orleans"
says David. He adds "But joining is not enough. You have to become a partner
with the trade members in the association. Devoting your time and efforts to
the betterment of the industry and the association is vital to the success of
your marketing to the trade members!"
By maximizing his membership in the HBAGNO, David has
accomplished many of his goals. In his 6 years as a member, he has been
appointed to the Board of Directors for the past 4 years, Associate Council
Chairperson for 1 term, Vice chair of the Associate Council for 2 terms,
Associate Council Louisiana HBA appointee for 2 terms and currently is the
HBAGNO National Association of Home Builders Associate Council Board of
Directors appointee. "My potential customers, the builders in this association,
take note of who shows up to the meetings and puts forth the effort to make the
association viable" he says. "This provides my company with business
opportunities and personal relationships with the builders that I may not have
had if I wasn't so involved!"
Floorco was the first to sign on as a "Signature Sponsor". "I
love the Signature Sponsorship Program" he says. "I pay one reasonable fee and
my company is represented at every function this association has. I would
advise all associates to take a hard look at the program" he adds.
Look David up some time or corner him at any function to
find out how you can "Get Involved". "The opportunities are there, you just
have to put forth the effort" he says, as he moves on to the next HBAGNO event!
