Committee & Council Updates
Remodelers Council Fernando Arriola, 2010 Chair
Next Meeting: Wednesday, August 4 @ 12pm Location: Singer Kitchen, Baths, Closets & More! @ 231 N. Carrollton Ave, New Orleans
The Remodelers Council is taking a summer vacation! Our July meeting has been canceled, but we're already focused on planning the August 4th meeting at Singer Kitchens, Baths, Closets & More!
The EPA recently announced an extension in the deadline for contractors to get Lead Based Paint certified, but HBA is still offering training classes! Also, lead safe work practices are still required. So check out the Remodelers Council page on the HBA website to download the Renovate Right booklet and other useful documents!
NAHBRemodelers is also tracking the U.S. Department of Energy issue concerning the new regulation essentially banning multiple showerheads, and HBA will continue to keep local Remodelers updated.

Crescent City Green Council Toni Wendel, 2010 Chair
Next Meeting: Thursday, July 22nd @ 12pm HBA Office, 2424 N. Arnoult Road, Metairie
The Crescent City Green Building Council had an excellent meeting last month
sponsored by NOLA Bamboo. Mike Ward and Craig Cortello gave a very informative
presentation on some of the many green products available in the shop, and Mike,
a former chef, treated us to a fantastic and fresh home-cooked lunch! We also
reviewed extensively the goals and accomplishments of the Crescent City Green
Council, and look forward to continuing to work towards these objectives, as
well as new ideas provided by our council members.
This month we will have a
very exciting meeting with David Crump, a retired judge and NAHB lawyer, who
will discuss the legal ramifications of building green. We would like to invite
all HBA members and guests to this event, which will take place on Thursday July
22. Please contact Alex if you have any questions or would like to attend!

Multifamily Council Peter Young, 2010 Chair
Next Meeting: Thursday, July 8th @ 12pm Ferguson Warehouse, 901 S. Labarre Road
Following up on a presentation we had last year by LHFA's
Branda Evans, we'll be learning more about the Low Income Housing Tax Credit
(LIHTC), specifically the qualified allocation process. For those of you in the
tax credit sector or interested in learning more about the tax credit sector
for multifamily, you won't want to miss this presentation at the MFC meeting on July 8th! The Education committee will be offering an LIHTC-based
designation course in November: Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP,)
as well as the traditional MFC designations: Certified Leasing Professional
(CLP) and Registered in Apartment Management (RAM.) Lastly, the MFC and its members have been running a
successful ad campaign in the Real Estate section of Gambit Weekly. This is a
great opportunity for MFC members to market their company in this
well-circulated publication, while being recognized for being a member of the
council. Check out the Multifamily Issue of the Summer HQ coming out
this month, and stay tuned for even more marketing opportunities! Visit the Multifamily Council Homepage for more information.

Associates Council Mike LeCorgne, 2010 Chair
Next Meeting: Wednesday, July 7 @ 8:30am HBA Office
We're getting closer & closer to the 2010 Wess Wyman Annual Fishing Rodeo, and although we faced unique challenges this year, the rodeo will go on! The committee relocated the event to a closer location this year - Bayou Bienvenue. The anglers will be congregating at the Pelican Pavilion behind the Marina Motel in Chalmette, and I have no doubt the party will be the same as if we were back in Venice. The rodeo is sure to deliver a good time, and it's not too late to register!
To fish or sponsor, return the Registration Form to the HBA office, or even come register to fish on Friday morning at the Pelican Pavilion between 5am & 8am! Even if you don't fish, come join us for dinner Friday & Saturday - $20 for both nights!
EVENTS: Wess Wyman Memorial Fishing Rodeo: July 9-10 @ Bayou Bienvenue, Chalmette Kick-A$$ Cook Off: Date & Location TBD Fall Golf Tournament: October 5 @ English Turn

Membership Committee Riley Babin, 2010 Chair Next Meeting: Wednesday, July 7 @ 8:30am HBA Office
CLICK TO ENTER SURVIVOR SITE
The HBA Membership Committee is excited about the Survivor 2010
Membership Drive! The idea, like the show, is to compete with the four named
tribes (Bildahousa; Sawadusta; Nailaguna; Twobyfoura) by HBA & Council members.
We have created a website just for this membership drive so that everyone can
follow along throughout the year via their own computer. We'll also keep
everyone updated at periodic Tribal Councils. We recently had our first tribal
council where the 2 trailing teams (??) served dinner to the 2 leading teams. There
are lots of great prizes, but also penalties for the losing tribes - like
washing the winning teams' cars & eating chocolate covered bugs!
EVERYONE is encouraged to join in and RECRUIT new members....
If every member brings in 1-2 new members, we will exceed our 1000 member goal
for the year. We are currently at 935 and holding. If you know someone who is
interested in considering a membership with the HBA, check out the survivor
website. You will find all of the forms and sales tools needed to bring on a
new member. If you are interested in joining a tribe or have any questions
please contact your Committee Chair Riley Babin or Membership Director Kathy
Barthelemy and we will assist you in any way possible. Just remember PLEASE PUT
YOUR NAME IN THE REFERRAL SECTION!!
Some of the prizes include: Spa Membership; Hotel Stay; Food
GC's, Spike Points, etc....

Legislative Committee Anthony Licciardi, 2010 Chair
This year's Legislative General Session adjourned on Monday, June 21. Overall,
the session was successful for LHBA and HBA-GNO. We were able to successfully
head off most of the legislation that was potentially damaging to our industry,
and we were able to pass some bills that will prove very helpful (i.e. the removal of sprinkler requirements & uniform assessments - for more, see the HQ to be mailed this month!)
Though the oil spill overshadowed a great deal of this session, we
are pleased with the outcome and will again focus our attention on any
legislation that may be proposed in the coming months prior to the next session.
We are also currently working to assist NAHB with some national issues,
including the yet-unrenewed National Floof Insurance Program and the
EPA-proposed requirements for plumbing fixtures. If you have any questions about
the HBA's legislative activities or have any issues you would like addressed,
please bring them to our attention by contacting Alex Rodriguez at the HBA Office.

Associate Spotlight
Helmut Mundt Hartwig Moss Insurance Agency, Ltd.
Helmut can be reached at 985.727.4800 ext. 228 or [email protected]
I am an Account Executive with the Hartwig Moss Insurance Agency. I have been with them since 2005, a year we all remember. I have been in the insurance industry for 12 years now, and I am primarily involved with commercial accounts. I work with business owners in analyzing their coverages, insurance costs, and current risk management practices. We work hard to ensure that our clients are insured correctly and at the best possible price. Prior to coming to the insurance industry I was in the industrial coatings and linings business. On a personal note, I am married for 25 years, 2 children, 4 grandsons and a granddaughter on the way. On days off, not much I would rather do than go chase some speckled trout, or catch a baseball game.
The Hartwig Moss Insurance Agency has been serving New Orleans based businesses since 1871. They are the oldest independent agency in the city. In fact they wrote the first flood policy issued in New Orleans. Hartwig currently employees about 50 people and we write about $75 million in annualized premium. Our Client's businesses are diverse and we do write many local Contractors, Homebuilders, Remodelers, Plumping, A/C & Heating Contractors, Suppliers, Developers and Property Owners. We represent many different insurance companies, and would welcome to opportunity to see if we can be of benefit to you and your business.
