The first MFC meeting of the New Year was held at Copeland's Social City and was a great success! We were extremely excited to have our featured speakers, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newel Normand, John Piglia of JP Code Enforcement and the Assist. Parish Attorney Matt Friedman as our featured Speakers. They addressed the topic of blight and crime in Jefferson Parish.

We've kicked off our education program - which will run through the Spring - with an extensive Maintenance Training program on January 25. We have also launched our Committees within the council which will give everyone a variety of ways to get more involved with the Multifamily Council. We are looking for anyone that does business or is interested in doing business with the Multifamily Industry to come join us at our next meeting on April 8. Tony LicciardiLegislative Committee
Anthony Licciardi, 2010 Chair

January was a very active month for the Legislative Committee. In collaboration with the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of REALTORS® (NOMAR), we hosted a very successful and highly publicized Mayoral Forum on housing-related issues. Rob Couhig, John Georges, Troy Henry, Mitch Landrieu, James Perry, and Nadine Ramsey were all in attendance, and local TV personality Lee Zurik moderated. Additionally, candidate interviews were held for both the City Council District A and Senate District 5 races. All the major candidates for each race including Jay Batt, Virginia Blanque, Susan Guidry, Irma Dixon, and Rep. Karen Carter Peterson participated. Please take note of our candidate endorsements and don't forget to vote on February 6 if you live in Orleans Parish! We will keep you updated as the races progress and run-offs are announced.
