The Mortgage Monitor |
November 2011 | |
Every month, I like to support a local business or event that is happening, especially when my clients are involved. As the holiday season is approaching, I think now is a good time to donate to charities.
While I support charities like "Movember" and "Because I Am A Girl", I want to share with you a charity that a client of mine, Dr. Baranowsky, is supporting through World Vision, Girls in Crisis Fund.
Your financial donation will help provide education, skills training, medical assistance, counseling and a safe place to stay for those girls in need.
Dr. Baranowsky is the Founder and Director of the Traumatology Institute and was instrumental in developing their internationally recognized Training Curriculum. Dr. Baranowsky is a practicing Psychologist, specializing in post-trauma assessment and care. A donation of any amount can make a difference.

In financial news, there is currently a small gap between fixed and variable rates. As many of you know, I am a big fan of variable mortgages. I've included an article on what the Bank of Canada is expected to do over the next year. I do, however, have a promo 5 year fixed rate at 2.99% from today to December 2nd. See my rate sheet for more details.

Bank of Canada could slash interest rates in a big way next year
As the nail biter in Europe continues this week, two economists are predicting the Bank of Canada will move to cut rates in a big way next year.
Sheryl King, an economist at Bank of America Merril Lynch, said in a note that the volatility hitting Europe and the risk of damage to the global economy means the Bank of Canada will move to cut its benchmark interest rate to ward off the risk of recession. Her prediction is the cut will be a whopping 0.75% decrease from the current rate of 1%.

What if the eurozone explodes?
LONDON - Any eurozone failure would send shock waves around the globe, shifting the balance of geopolitical power and perhaps prompting a fundamental reassessment of what the world's future might look like. EU sources told Reuters that officials of France and Germany, since the 1950s the driving forces of European integration, had held discussions on a two-speed Europe with a smaller, more tightly integrated euro zone and a looser outer circle. Top 10 Neighbourhoods in Toronto

Home sales continue to rise in Canada, according to the latest monthly report by The Canadian Real Estate Association. Existing real estate purchases rose 2.7 per cent in September compared with August and up 11 per cent year to year.
While sales slowed in other parts of the country - Canada's largest metropolitan area experienced the most dramatic increase. The number of resale homes sold in Toronto in September rose more than 20 percent over the same time last year. The average price of a home sold in Canada also rose 6.5 per cent to $352,600 since September of 2010.
The average price in Toronto is much higher at approximately $460,000. Though the price of homes isn't deterring people in Toronto from buying homes - demand is outpacing supply. |
