Greetings!
Good Monday Morning! As we head into 2012, we're reviewing last year and planning for the upcoming year. One of the national trends gaining more and more momentum right here in our community is shopping locally.
Shopping locally keeps money in our community. For example: $100 in consumer spending at a national chain bookstore in Austin impacted their locally economy $13. The same amount spent at locally based bookstores yielded $45, or more than three times the local economic impact! The same can be said of Luling - local dollars benefit Luling significantly more than dollars spent at national chains.
Last year the chamber began its "Homegrown Luling" campaign in an effort to promote our local businesses - and our local economy. Watch for more "Homegrown Luling" projects and activities in 2012. In fact, we've got a fun project in the works...
Have you heard of a "flash mob"? Well, we're planning a "cash mob". It's based on a simple fact: we each do a little, but together we can do a lot. We'll be announcing the day, date, time and location to meet. We'll meet with $20 in hand. Then we'll arrive at a local retailer and each spend our $20. If 20 folks show up, that's $400 in sales for one of our homegrown businesses... If 40 folks show up, that's $800 in sales... Pretty big impact for a small business! And a fun way to show our support. ...There might even be a local restaurant or watering hole planned for after our shopping.
We'll keep you posted...
Have a great week!
Ada
