Austin Hibbs
Meet the Crew!

Austin "Beard-Boy" Hibbs

Austin grew up here in the Flinthills, and like so many Kansans, he started growing a beard when he was five. For his 10th birthday, he asked for a homebrew kit, and his parents said no.

"Just you wait. I'm going to work for a brewery someday! You'll see."

12 years later that's just what he did. Austin has now worked at Tallgrass for over 2 years. If you've ever had a tour of our little brewery, it was probably led by Austin.

He takes care of all of our customer relations and other important stuff like that.

Before working at Tallgrass, he had to go to college. If you love beer, what do you study in college? Geology & Archeology of course.

When he found out that most archeologists don't use a whip, he turned to drinking beer full time.

Austin is a homebrewer and his dream is to one day develop a great beer for Tallgrass or at least one that doesn't cause blindness.

Favorite Tallgrass Beer:

"I love them all. It's like choosing your favorite child. If I had to choose a favorite beer it would be: More!"

Hidden Talents: Like many Tallgrass employees, Austin's hidden talent involves beer. He can order beer in five languages. A handy traveling companion.

Interesting Story: Austin once killed three Nazis with a rocket launcher... on Call of Duty.

Austin also likes to watch soccer on TV. There's one in every crowd.

The First Belgian-Style Tripel in a Can!*velvet can mock-up

And it's a big can too!

Velvet Rooster is based on the first ever test batch our head brewer Andrew (aka "Hood") did for us, which forever solidified his reputation as the "new brew guru."

When we first drank this amazing concoction, we all had the same thought: "Get this in a can now!"

It took awhile, but this October you can finally taste this amazing brew.

Belgian-style Tripels have a long and storied history that started with Trappist Monks in Belgium.

ABV 8.5

Tripels are notoriously "strong beers" and the Rooster is our biggest beer yet, but be careful. With its smooth taste and sweet candy-like finish, it is a sneaky little bird.

Craft Beer + Cans = Website

www.craftcans.com

Craft Cans Logo There are many great beer websites. One of our favorites is all about craft beer in cans. Ever since we published our Tallgrass Canifesto and gave up the bottle, we have been proclaiming the goodness of the humble can. Now there's a website doing it too.

WWW.CRAFTCANS.COM  was started in 2009 by two brothers, Russ & Kelly Phillips, to sing the praises of great beer in cans, and they do a fantastic job. News, reviews, and Canfest too!

Check them out and tell them Tallgrass sent ya.

Me & my sign!

Funny, I don't feel any different...

We hit a couple milestones this summer. We now have 5000+ Facebook fans, we brewed 31,000+ gallons of beer in a single month, and we now sell our tasty brews in 15 states (I have been to every one).

I know we're getting bigger, but it doesn't feel that different to me. The brewery smells the same (really good), the break room is still a folding table in the middle of the office (a little messy), and we still love brewing beer (yay)!

On most days I still feel like a homebrewer with a kick-ass set-up just brewing some beer for my friends. These days I have a lot more friends who want my beer, and they're always really thirsty.

In my ol' homebrewin' days, when I wanted to make a new brew, I would just ask my friends, "What beer should I make next?"

We would drink a lot of different beers, argue, debate, drink more, then we'd settle on one, and I would start brewing.

So now it is time to ask you, my multitude of new friends, "What beer should I make next?" Rather than everyone calling me at home or texting me, please take a moment to take our short survey.

The survey won't take you long and we tried to make it fun in our special Tallgrass kind of way. Besides, what else are you going to do? Work?

TAKE THE SURVEY RIGHT NOW!

As always, thanks for drinking Tallgrass Beer,

PS: Whatever else you do, this October, try our new Velvet Rooster. I'm drinking one now and it's amazing! If I do say so myself.
