| BUV Finally Makes It To Kager
Hard to believe that it has taken over one year to get the Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) to Kager village, but it has finally arrived! This simple vehicle is truly expected to be a vehicle of change and open up many new opportunities for the community of Kager village.
Here is the first report on the use of the BUV:
"I am pleased to share that Joseph has now used it in taking some foods to neighbouring homes and churches. During the Aqua Clara water purifier training, the BUV so mch helped in bringing water.
This morning, Joseph used it to take a group of women who were taking mango fruits to Homa Bay town (20 kilometer walk). He drove them up to some point where they would take just a few minutes and they walked into town from there. These are just the beginnings of what we have seen the BUV does. The sound of the BUV in Kager made a public announcement, and the side shows of how the BUV moves was a catch to every eye.
Many people around and outside Kager are overwhelmed with what BUV is, and how it operates. I must confess from the testimonies I have heard personally, that there is a stir in the village and many people are now optimistic that JVP is really up for good. A new thing is happening in Kager, and a new dawn has began to shine in Kager. We value what God is doing. Friends, may the Lord bless you for this great gift that will help transform our village."

Food and Clothing for the Poor
Through our partner ministries at Feed The Hungry / LESEA (South Bend) and Solomon's Wardrobe / East 91st St Church (Indpls), the sea container was packed with 10 pallets of canned foods and over 60 bags of clothes. JVP is truly living out Jesus' command in Matthew 25:36-37 to feed the hungry and cloth the poor as reported below from the village:
"The food supplies that we recently received from Indiana, is indeed a blessing to the Kager village and all the neighbouring villages. We have had a very successful first round distribution of food and clothings to all the homes in Kager Village. The distribution which was done by the Champions, and also involved Churches in Kager and outside Kager to make our distribution cover a larger area. A new thing is happening in the village. Yesterday, in a midweek fellowship in Kager, one lady gave a testimony of how she praised God to have allowed her see something of this kind with her own eyes. She had been hearing of a container, but this time round the Lord blessed her to see what she had not seen in her life time.
Another report on food is that many people have approved their sweetness, especially the sweet peas in small tins and the black-eyed beans in the bigger tins. They are sweet and nutritious. The many villagers are grateful for the clothes, and this all shows the love of God that the JVP partners have for this village. The distribution of clothes targeted all the orphans and widows in Kager and the communities around, and everyone who deserved this. I must appreciate this good work done, and other programs ahead, which is for the good of this community. We still have plenty of food to distribute, and this may go to third or fourth round. We want to be a point of rescue and help to those who will be in need of food.
On Saturday, as I was walking from a funeral, I met a man who comes from another village, but he had very good words to share with me about JVP. He confessed that he has heard reports of what JVP is doing, not in only in Kager, but even around the villages sorrounding. He said that the work of JVP is transparent and with no discrimination at all, and he was jubilant with what we are doing. He is an agemate and friend whom we schooled with together and now he is a teacher. Hearing of such constructive comments are so encouraging, and this shows how effective JVP is sinking into the hearts of everyone around. The work of distribution for clothes and food is still on, and will continue until we have everything given out. It has made our Jubilee Resource Center very busy with people coming everyday for food and clothings. May the the Lord bless JVP and the generous people of Indiana."
The Light on the Hill
One of the six household solutions of the JOY Kitchens initiative is to provide a solar lantern for every home in Kager. Most homes rely on candles or kerosene lamps to light their small homes at night -- these pose both a fire hazaed and a source of indoor air pollution. Here is the report of how the distribution of 28 solar lanterns included on the sea container shipment:
"Greetings in Jesus Name. During John's visit, we used the opportunity to introduce him to the Joy Kitchen Initiative Women. This was done in style, as we distributed the solar lanterns to the women.
People here are experiencing a new thing. My brother John took a video tape of some of the testimonies the women had, and I will wait to hear from you, when John presents his report to the Partners meeting. The Solar lanterns are shining in the homes of these women, and many of them have confirmed how delightful they are by getting these lanterns. They are able save on the cost of kerosene, and do away with the smoke emitted from the local lamp. Many of them have a smile as their chidren are able to study comfortably and evade the infection from the smoke that have made their eyes itchy and more problem.
Many people are asking for this now and even yesternight I had a guest in my house from the village asking for the solar lantern. He is a brother who has ben having chest problem and at the same time has poor source of light. When he heard about the lanterns, he really wanted one. I prayed with him that the Lord will eventually make provision of one for him. This shows you how effective the activities of JVP are being felt in Kager. One thing that everyone is surprised about, is how people have effectively embraced the vision of JVP to bring sustainable development to the village, and the willingness of the villagers to work hand in hand to make this achievable."

This will facilitate the installation of a Phase 3 transformeer for the entire village. It wil also fund the wiring of the village medical clinic, a a local church and a new JVP community centre.
