Youth Football Summer Training
Develops skills, improves conditioning
New & Inexperienced Players Get a Head Start on the Season
TULSA, OK - 6/02/11
Coach Dan Hedman's motto at Faster Athlete Speed Training in Glenpool is "Where Are You Going?".  "Because if you don't know where you are going, how are you going to get there?", says Coach Dan.  "Most kids like the idea of playing football, they just don't understand what it takes to get there.  We want to help them show up on the first day of practice ready to play."

During his years coaching his sons in youth football Coach Dan saw many kids show up August 1st with no idea of what was in store for them.  "Some kids pick up the game easily, but many kids don't start figuring it out until the year is half over, many get frustrated sitting on the bench and just give up."

As a former coach, Hedman knows it is not always a coach's fault if a player doesn't develop.  "Once practice starts, there is limited time to really teach fundamentals.  Coaches have a responsibility to the team and just don't have the time to work with every kid as much as they may need."

Coach Dan's Youth Football Summer Training is designed to help give those kids the maximum opportunity to succeed.  "We can help every child get better, but I like specializing in bringing the fundamentals of football to a rookie player.  There is no better satisfaction than helping that light come on, and seeing that little spark of understanding turn a boy into a football player."  "Helping kids maximize their potential is what we are all about," said Hedman.

Hedman is joined this summer by Coach Mike Whitson, who will be heading up the QB/Receiver/Running Back camps.  Whitson brings a wealth of experience to the FAST Oklahoma Football Academy.  Beginning as a State Champion QB at Ada High School and spending many years working with youth, high school and college football, Coach Whitson provides solid instruction in fundamentals for both new and experienced quarterbacks & receivers.
  • State Champion QB at Ada High School
  • Coached Ada High School Freshman football for 4 seasons
  • 22 years youth camp coaching and development
  • Founder of the Junior Sooner Football Camp at Oklahoma University
  • Chaplain for OU football team (1999-2003) (including a 2000 National Championship ring!  Very sweet)
  • Co-Founder of Josh Heupel #14 Foundation
  • Varsity Football Coach at Broken Arrow High School for 3 seasons

All training will include a 30 minute speed and agility based warm-up based on Hedman's Faster Athlete Speed Training.  "Football at the highest levels is probably 80% speed, strength & endurance and 20% skills.  We want to help kids develop game speed and get them mentally and physically prepared for the football season."  This will include things like agility ladders, lunges, hip mobility exercises, running mechanics and learning explosive movement in all directions.  "We want the athletes to be injury-free all season so we work on things that will help them be stronger, more agile, more flexible and improve their endurance," said Coach Dan.

Skills instruction is based on developing solid fundamentals through repetition.  "We use drills we have used with success throughout our combined 40 years of coaching kids, said Coach Dan, "Most of the drills we use are standard practice drills that can be found on the NFL's USA Football website, and at most High School and College practices every fall," he added.

A typical class will involve the warm-up, position drills and usually end with some kind of fun game.  "These are not miniature adults, they are kids, and this is supposed to be fun.  We want every child to leave exhausted but with a smile on his face," said Coach Dan.

The QB camp will be held on Tues and Thurs nights beginning June 7, Football Fundamentals will be held on Saturdays beginning June 11, Rookie Camp will be July 26 and 28.  For exact dates, times and registration info parents can log onto www.Faster-Athlete.com, email GetFaster@Faster-Athlete.com or call 918-282-3923.
