Spring Break Camps to help Football Go Global
Tulsa Athlete Raising Money for Africa Trip
'Kili Bowl' to be First Football Game Ever in Africa
TULSA, OK - 3/08/11
In his time as a Holland Hall linebacker Seth Hedman made many road trips to Texas to play football in the Southwest Preparatory Conference and in his first season as Drake University's starting linebacker, he took road trips to play football in Montana, Florida, North Carolina, Indiana and Missouri.  Now he's taking a road trip to Tanzania, Africa to play in the first ever football game on that continent.
Africa 2011
Each player has to cover their own expenses for the trip.  To help raise the money Hedman is conducting Spring Break Sports Camps for athletes aged 7-12 at Faster Athlete's facility in Glenpool.  "In addition to being a good football player, Seth is a great teacher and role model and has a gift for working with kids," said Dan Hedman owner of Faster Athlete and Seth's Dad. "One of Faster Athlete's core values is to help kids achieve their athletic dreams.  It wasn't long ago Seth was their age, dreaming of playing college football.  The camp is an opportunity for Seth to help the kids who attend the camps to move towards their dreams and for them to help him and the kids from Drake take football to the kids of Tanzania."

The sports camps will be held March 14-18 with Session 1 from 9am-Noon and Session 2 from 1pm-4pm.  Athletes can attend 1 session, 1 day or the whole week.  Each day will involve a different sport and each session will cover either offensive or defensive skills.  Monday will be a Football Lineman Camp with help from former TU lineman and FCA Regional Director Chris Kaiser.  Tuesday will be Football All Skills, Wednesday is basketball, Thursday baseball.  Friday morning will be soccer, Friday afternoon will be a combine prep clinic.  Each camp will focus on developing proper fundamentals and is limited to 20 students to ensure quality hands-on instruction.

"The camp itinerary is very similar to any team practice, except we slow down and work on the skills development of each child," said Coach Dan, who is a certified youth fitness specialist, "We will have warm-ups, agility drills and hands-on instruction and drills in the fundamentals of the sport.  We will then have games and competitions to give the kids a chance to play and compete using the skills they were taught during the session."

For details or to register parents can go to www.faster-athlete.com . Media can view camp details here.

The training center is located on South 141st just 5 minutes South of the Creek Turnpike and 1 block West of US 75 making it very accessible for athletes from Sapulpa, West Tulsa, South Tulsa, Bixby, Jenks and of course Glenpool and all of the smaller towns along the "Okmulgee Beeline" I-75 corridor.
Texas-based Global Football will organize the Global Kilimanjaro Bowl where in addition to globalfootballlogocompeting on the football field, members of both teams will undertake a series of projects to benefit the local community and climb the imposing 19,340-foot Mount Kilimanjaro by different routes, culminating their climbs by meeting at the summit and hoisting their respective university and national flags.

"This is a truly groundbreaking and unique overseas visit that will spread the appeal of American football onto the African continent," said Patrick Steenberge, President of Global Football. "This will be much more than a football game, as the teams will undertake a number of memorable and worthy projects."

The trip will begin on May 17, 2011, and following two practices, football clinics for 1600 local youth and a safari, the two teams will meet on the field on Saturday, May 21. The remainder of the visit will be dedicated to youth orphanage service projects and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro before returning on June 1.

The traveling football roster for Drake University, an NCAA Division I-FCS non-scholarship school located in Des Moines, Iowa, will consist of approximately 60 players, eligible for the 2010 season.
"I am overwhelmed with excitement as this long time vision is now becoming a reality," said Drake head coach Chris Creighton. "This trip will surely be one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. The three major components of the trip are each monumental. We cannot wait to make this happen."

Drake's Mexican opposition will be selected from the CONADEIP conference that completed its inaugural football season in the fall of 2010, having restructured to provide a highly competitive schedule for the long-dominant private universities in Mexico.
