Amanda Runey: An Update from Vietnam

Amanda Runey
Now in her second year as an English teacher in Vietnam, Amanda Runey ('08) can't stop talking about everything she's learned overseas. She brilliantly personifies the adage that to be a great teacher, one must first be a great student. She daily has to adapt to an environment that is completely different from the one she's used to in America. As she works as a teacher at Hanoi University of Technology, however, she admits that she doesn't want to be anywhere else: "I never thought a place halfway around the world would feel so much like home."

Says Runey, "Being in Vietnam has given me such a different perspective on what's worth getting worked up about and what's not. There's not much I can do if it's out of my control, and I'm finally learning not to worry about it!"
