The Reformation Underground Will Be Heard

Reformation Underground Reformation Underground: Dead Theologians Society (RUDTS) is a movement that has taken the form of a blog and internet radio program. RUDTS was co-founded by David Appold ('09) and Ty Bramwell ('10). David majored in education at CUAA, and will be entering the seminary in June 2010. Bramwell is a pre-seminary student who will be entering the seminary soon after graduation this spring.

To have the movement truly defined, we asked the founders for their own words. Bramwell wrote, "RUDTS is a grassroots
network of Christians who value the faithful preaching and teaching of the Word of God on Christian campuses and churches wherever they may be. Today many institutions of higher education bare the name of Christ but do not properly proclaim the true teachings of the Faith as they are found in Scripture. RUDTS aims to support and encourage Christians who, for whatever reason, find themselves under the assault of liberal theology."

Robert Bethune Writing, Recording, Performing

Robert Bethune Guest Artist in Theatre, Robert Bethune, recently had his translation of Goldoni's The Mistress of the Inn (La Locandiera) selected by Dr. Maria Truglio, Associate Professor of Italian in the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at Pennsylvania State University, for her course, Italian 297H, Masking Desire: Power, Performance and Plan on the Italian Stage.

In a letter to Bethune, Dr. Truglio's wrote, "We just completed our unit on Goldoni, and the students really loved it! They all managed to get a copy of your wonderful translation from Amazon (and Penn State is getting a copy for the library). I also showed the you-tube clip of the duel scene in class, which was very useful and elicited a lot of great discussion. I really appreciate and admire your translation! I am amazed that you managed to translate Mirandolina's toast keeping both the rhyme and the meaning intact! I had the students debate the issue of the roles of Ortensia and Dejanira, pointing out that many English translators cut them out entirely. That was a good spring board to analyze a lot of the themes of the play."

In addition to translation work, Bethune produces and records audiobooks. Over the past summer, he produced an audiobook version of Thomas Carlyle's The French Revolution, which was released on Audible.com in August 2009.

During the fall, Bethune produced an audiobook version of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, using the Edward Fitzgerald translation. That was released on Audible.com the first of February.

Bethune's current work includes a series of audiobook titles that will explore the poetry of Lord Byron, starting from his very earliest work and progressing through his whole career as a poet. The first of that series will be released on Audible.com sometime in early March.
