Marilyn Meell and the Tanzania Teacher Exchange Program
Dr. Marilyn Meell, coordinator of graduate studies in the School of Education, has been involved in the teaching of Effective Instructional Strategies and Effective and Efficient Planning as part of a Tanzanian teacher exchange program.
Dr. Meell writes, "This began with one of our MSEL graduate students (Ruth Knoll) who has a very strong connection with the school in Tanzania. Her goal was to bring two of their teachers here for teacher training and to work with two teachers from South Arbor Academy."
The U.S. portion of training ended on Thursday, June 25, with each teacher developing a complete unit in Science (including all lessons, student activities, and gathered all resources) and teaching that unit in a summer school program at Little Lambs School. On June 30, the two Tanzanian teachers, the two S. Arbor teachers, Ruth and one other individual will travel to Tanzania and spend 3 weeks working with the teachers in their school. Part of their responsibility is to go back and teach their teachers effective practices. The four teachers will again teach their science unit
in Kabangu School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania during the next two weeks.
