The Garchow Legacy
The Garchow endowment serves as a testimony to the lives and mission of Rev. Alvin R. Garchow and his wife, Luella. Luella passed away in 2008 and her estate gave a gift of $150,000 to increase the endowment's reach. It was Luella's opinion that her husband wanted Concordia to benefit as the giver, and one of the seminaries to benefit as the receiver.
Interest from the permanently endowed scholarship is disbursed annually among first-year seminarian students. Due to the current size of the endowment, the Garchow Scholarship Committee has decided to distribute the award among all of the Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) pre-seminary program alumni in their first year at seminary.
The Reverend Charles Schulz, director of the pre-seminary program at CUAA notes, "At a time when the cost of seminary education is increasing for the students, this news couldn't have come at a better time. It is such a wonderful blessing that the Garchows anticipated this need and gave so generously to those who will proclaim Christ's salvation."
