Figured
Steamed SOFT MAPLE blocks
|
We have carefully compiled this special offering by sorting thru the best-of-the-best in our shorter length Figured Maple inventory. Ready for drawer fronts, accent panels, guitar blanks or whatever, this is some sweet stuff. The wood has been bundled into easy-to-ship sets and posted on our eShop for simple click and ship purchasing. To quote one of our workers, "Wow, that's some REALLY nice wood!" |
Hard Maple Workbench
Kits .... order now before its too late !!! |
We have some great Hard Maple just begging to be converted into a workbench for your own shop!
The strength and durability of this wood makes it a great choice for a bench that's ready to take a beating. Not only that, but it is also mighty attractive.
We will be taking orders for the Hard Maple kits from now until our material is gone, or the Fourth of July, whichever comes first. That will give us time to prep the material and get it ready for shipment by the end of Aug or early Sept.
Kits will include all the wood necessary for construction and a copy of Chris Schwarz's book, Workbenches. The price is a very reasonable $1150. Of course we are all suffering from a bit of spring fever right now, but if you plan ahead you can have this project arrive at your door at the start of fall.....Maybe the winter will seem a little less endless next year if you can spend your time working on your HORIZON workbench! We expect to sell fast so don't delay. Give us a call 814-772-1651 or send and email to place your order! hwp@horizonwood.com |

On the road with HORIZON ........ travels to the Pacific Northwest, NYC and Brazil |
Staying in touch and staying on top.....
The past quarter has seen a fair amount of travel on the part of the HORIZON crew as we touch base with old customers, nurture new relationships and explore emerging possibilities.

Pacific Northwest
According to Pete and Dan, "The trip was fantastic! In addition to taking a few amazing shop tours we were treated to the
beautiful landscapes of northwestern Washington and southwestern British Colombia. We send thanks to our friends in Vancouver and Seattle for showing us such great hospitality. We really appreciated seeing the intricacies of their skills:perfectly matched table tops, beautifully handcrafted custom furniture, gorgeous musical instruments .... made from wonderful HORIZON WOOD."
This kind of travel represents the perfect culmination of the HORIZON sales style. Repetitive orders with a customer create strong relationships. With the first order we strive to fill the customer's needs with the best product possible. This requires phone conversations, emails, photo exchanges, and a lot of leg work. The second order comes with some feedback from the customer, and is a little easier because we now have a good understanding of what he or she is looking for. But, the coolest thing about all this interaction is that we develop some pretty tight ties with the people who buy and use our wood. We got to see our wood in their shops and touch the finished products. Our trip to the Pacific Northwest was a fantastic example of how relationships with customers move from business connections to friendships.
New York City.....
The Architectural Digest Home Design Show lured us to NYC in March. While there HORIZON learned about the most recent trends in interior design and furnishings. We met with some talented woodworkers and generated interest in the unique matched and sequenced hardwoods HORIZON provides.
Coming from the expanse of rural PA we are always surprised to find numerous woodworking shops fit into the confines of the city. While in New York we met with several customers who were kind enough to show us how HORIZON's wood is being transformed into beautiful furniture.
It is always a pleasure for us to visit our customers and see their work in action, just as it is for us to reciprocate and show them around our operation. The interaction always proves to be an educational and enriching experience.

About a year and a half ago we were working hard to prepare bundled sets of Ash for build-it-yourself workbench kits. We toted the kits off to the WIA trade show near Philly and were excited by the interest they drew from the crowd.
Lots of our customers have been in contact with us since then, looking for tips on the bench construction or just telling us how much fun they are having with the projects. The fruits of our labors have ripened! Read on for more specifics and images of the end results.
Words of one satisfied customer, "The Ash was great to work with.... Having straight, surfaced stock from the start saved me a ton of time since I only had to do light jointing and planing. Thanks again for the nice wood!"

and on a more personal note........
Big News in Terbo-town |
Lots going on with the Terbovich crew in 2011 .....
We are waiting anxiously for the arrival of Dan and Krystle's first child, a daughter, due in the middle of June. Mom's girth is increasing at a steady pace and the newest little Terbo shows signs of energy and enthusiasm with her kicks and bounces. After raising three sons, prospects of lace and ruffles are very inticing for the soon to be Grandparents! (Stay tuned for baby pics in the next newsletter!)

And in other big news, wedding plans are well underway for Pete's upcoming

nuptials in September. We are pleased as can be with his selection of his soon-to-be bride, Danielle. Her spontaneity and zest for the adventures of life keep us smiling. How exciting!! (Photo on the left is Danielle's baby!!)
Please join us in wishing the best for these two brothers as they stride on!
