walnut figured 235117

A rare find....

CURLY
Walnut

#235117

This is a great selection of solid, clear walnut.  What makes it exceptional is the even, fiddleback figure evident throughout.  When we get our hands on walnut with this much curl we KNOW we have something special!!!

Editorial Comments on the Industry....
(or other topics worth mentioning)
George T It seems today with all the news and hype about correcting problems in economies and environments,  the underlying fact is that we are all being asked to sacrifice and "do the right thing", We know at times it will be painful.  In some cases the pain is more an inconvenience, such as driving less, walking more, turning the lights off or the heat down, and recycling.  They certainly touch us, but not too hard, and in a lot of cases, at not too high a personal cost.  Other cases of pain genuinely hurt people; like wage cuts, job loss, higher prices or tax increases.  This pain is often considerable for even the most socially conscientious amongst us and when we think of current mounting deficits, upcoming health care costs, inflation, military expenses, Venus and Mars probes ... it is mind boggling.  There seems to be two fronts here, one being what we can do and the other what we spend.  I don't have much influence over social spending, only one vote, but I guess we can think a little more deeply of how we act personally and on a corporate level.

custom made furniture - customized by the customer!!
moser - vu chair seat
During the 1970's two aspiring companies independently set their roots by creating businesses based on WOOD. Over the decades they expanded their canopies to reach business partners and customers across the country and around the world. Although the companies were located about 500 miles apart, sometimes their customers and suppliers even came from  each other's own backyards.

Both enterprises busily sought out new challenges and established their reputations as industry leaders in their respective fields.  Over the years, each company knew of the other's existence and acknowledged them with admiration, but it wasn't until the past year that a connection was formed. That connection came with the realization that both businesses were based on similar sets of ideals, standards, and the desire to create.

Horizon Wood Products has always sought out high quality raw materials for the matching flitches which are an integral part of Horizon's Evolutions Division. High quality is also a fundamental focus as Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers designs and builds heirloom furniture.  The emphasis on high quality can now make the complete path from the forest to the foyer.

Conferences and Conventions......back to back!
WIA - Dan and Pete On the road, on the run.....  These past few months have been busy ones for HORIZON as we hit the pavement and spread the word about our products and what we have to offer.

First, it was the Woodworking in America (WIA) conference near  Chicago.  Following that visit to the mid-west, where we were impressed by the lectures and caliber of people involved, we began full speed prepping for the Valley Forge conference also sponsored by the WIA group.

Before the show we were talking with Don Schroder, a representative of Popular Woodworking magazine.  When we asked what to expect at the show,. he replied "Workbenches!"  We heeded his words and soon found ourselves immersed in the "workbench kit production" business. We sorted and selected some great ASH. The wood was bundled up into neat kits for the construction of  thoughtfully designed workbenches.  Workbenches "ruled" at the Valley Forge conference with a multitude of different styles and designs on display.  The Horizon ASH kits were a hit and we loaded many up for our customers.

Meet MEGAN - The "princess" of Horizon Wood Products
   Megan
One visit to HORIZON is all it really takes to learn who is actually in charge.  We are all well trained to respond to the "Knocks" on the door or the "Yelps" at the food bowl.  Meg knows which office worker has an endless supply of puppy treats hidden in her desk drawer.  Even the UPS man comes prepared with a pat and a snack.  We hate to admit that our dog has the upper hand (or is it the upper paw?), but the fact that she has her own personal bed tucked in various corners of at least four different offices on the Horizon grounds says it all.  Meg and Tables   In this photo Megan
is seated by her custom designed fiddleback maple dining table. A great complimentary piece to the human's dining table beside it.... made by Pat Megowan from 3 sequential pieces of HORIZION's sequentially cut 5/4 curly cherry.
