Bully Busting
Master Hendrix has designed a BULLY program for elementary school classes that does not involve contact but rather a discussion in how to identify and deal with the bully "situation". If you think your child's class could benefit from this program, please have the teacher contact Master Hendrix. The program is FREE.

Master Hendrix News
|
This past month has been very exciting for me. My Tae Kwon Do Times cover story about Master Thomas Gordon, a Florida martial arts instructor who took up semi-pro football at nearly 40 years young - was a hit at news stands during November.
Also a few weeks ago, I finished writing the cover story for the March 2012 Tae Kwon Do Times issue which should go on sale at Barnes & Noble in late February. This story is about Richard Moore, a Georgia martial arts instructor, who took a terrible fall and was blinded and nearly paralyzed. He made a full recovery thanks in large part to his martial arts training. Next, this past week my new Column for Taekwon-Do Times entitled "The Essentials" went live on The TKD Times website as a blog. If the column is well received with positive comments from readers online then it has a chance to end up as a regular column in the print version of TKD Times. To read the column and leave comments click Also, this past month I was honored by Sigung Paul Vunak and Sifu Harrinder Singh to be named as the United States East Coast Regional Director for their Contemporary Jeet Kune Do organization - The Descendants of the Masters.
Sigung Vunak and Sifu Hendrix
Sifu Singh and Sifu Hendrix
Sigung Vunak is one of the most recognized Jeet Kune Do Instructors in the world. He is well known for his time as the Hand to Hand Combat Trainer for the U.S. Navy SEALS.
Sifu Harrinder Singh is also a top Jeet Kune Do instructor and also one of the premiere strength and conditioning coaches in the U.S. He is also well versed in Yang and Chen Tai Chi. Sifu Singh and I have made plans for him to be at Essential Martial Arts in May, 2012 for a two day seminar!
December has gotten off to a BANG as well. Greensboro, Oak Ridge and Stoney Creek each had incredible belt tests with several new Black Belt promotions! Look to the right for a list of our Newest Black Belts !

Taekwon-Do tip of the Month
|
Unified-ITF link
Body turn in tuls: Please remember when practicing your Taekwon-Do tuls that there is not a big body turn going into movements. Instead your body will generally make about an 1/8th of a turn. Most of the power is gained from dropping our body weight using the sine wave.

Note on the: Eye Gouge/BilJee/Thrusting Fingers.
When attempting an eye gouge with your fingers, remember your fingers should attack the eye horizontally at an angle moving toward the inside of the bridge of the nose. If you miss the eye, your fingers are likely to deflect off the side of their nose and come back into their eye.

Meet the Master Master Fred Lewis is a 5th Degree Black Belt Trainee Master at Essential Martial Arts and has been training at EMA since 1996. He holds a degree from Greensboro College in business and legal administration and is one of the two senior-most students in the Essential Martial Arts program (along with Master Lalonnie Walker) and is the highest ranking instructor at EMA of Oak Ridge.
Master Lewis along with Soke James Clements were the two individuals who encouraged Master Hendrix to found a martial arts school in 1996. At that point, Master Lewis along with Mr. Greg Bulla became the first students of EMA (then simply known as Hendrix Tae Kwon Do).
Some years later Master Lewis encouraged Master Hendrix to branch EMA into the Oak Ridge community. Master Lewis is now the head instructor and manager of EMA Oak Ridge.
After a 15 year journey at EMA it was very exciting to see Master Lewis along with Master Lalonnie Walker become EMA's first students to reach 5th degree black belt in October of this year.
