Master Hendrix News

I returned home in early October from my Catch Wrestling Certification in San Diego (see last months newsletter) and the next weekend I was back to New York, where I  had just been a few weeks early to train and assistant teach a Jeet Kune Do seminar.  This time , though I was heading to Han Ho Martial Arts to teach a HapKiDo seminar.  The host and owner of Han Ho - Master Mike Barnard - was a super host. I worked with him and his assistant instructors the night before the seminar.  The next day the group session went super with a great crew of students.

 One of the main themes of the seminar was finger locks. Some say finger locks are painful. Here Mr. Daniel Post is trying to decide. :)

Once I got back to North Carolina, we started making plans for our annual Picnic. Which was awesome. There was a ton of fun and great people there.   Then the day after the picnic we had a high rank belt test were Mr. Edward Jordan promoted to 4th degree black belt , Master Lalonnie Walker promoted to 5th Degree black belt and Master Fred Lewis also promoted to 5th Degree black belt.  

As we moved into December we had some awesome Taekwon-Do and HapKiDo belt tests with several new black belts and even black belt pre-testers and mid term testers!  See to the right for pictures. 

Then we began making plans for the arrival of Dr. Keith Jeffery who is my primary Tai Chi mentor.  EMA hosted Dr. Jeffery's world renowned Tai Chi Symposium and we saw several of our Tai Chi team receive certifications. Take a look to the right for more details.  

Master Ellen Hendrix and I were very honored to receive the Founder's Award from Dr. Jeffery. To date there are only 6 other individuals who have received this award from him. 

Bully Tip for parents.

It is actually not necessarily a good idea to tell your child to "fight back". 

Often times the child is scared of the bully and if they feel this is your response they may be less likely to share with you what is happening.  

Fighting back should be reserved for the situation where the child is cornered and in actual physical danger. Then there will be no second thoughts to whether the right decision was made.

When performing your Tuls (forms), maintain good eye contact straight ahead. IOW, don't look at the floor or ceiling. You will look sharper and have more balance and power.

When circle stepping, do not over rotate and cross your legs. You should end in a balanced fighting stance or even a long "L" or Back Stance.

Straight Blast note. If you are using the Straight Blast method that is derived from the Wing Chun's Chain Punch then your retracting hand will stop just in front of the elbow joint.
