We closed June out with me heading up to Pittsburgh, PA to assist World HapKiDo Association President Grand Master Tae Jung with a seminar and black belt test at Master Joe Cosentino's Dojang.  Mr. Cosentino was an awesome host and tested for his WHA 3rd Degree black belt successfully!  

On my way home I deplaned in Washington, DC and drove over to Baltimore, Maryland to train in  Contemporary Jeet Kune Do and Philippine martial arts with Sigung Paul Vunak's right hand man - Sifu Harinder Singh.  

I got back home and a few days later Grand Master Jung flew into Greensboro and we had a super successful black belt test.

The next day we had an outstanding seminar with participants from all across North Carolina and also from Virginia and Kentucky !

July has been an exciting month. Our entire staff got a much needed break for the 4th of July week.  On a personal level I loaded my crew up and went to see my family and we swung through Dolly Wood in Pigeon Forge.  Unique experience.  

We got back home and actually had a couple days of rest to enjoy family time and also wrap up a few small projects around the house.  It was also nice to have some extra time to play with our new Great Dane Puppy named Athena as well as our 9 year old bulldogge named Dizzie (Doezee's daughter). 

Athena has been with us for three weeks and she is convinced that she is a bulldogge and that Dizzie is her mommy.  Not sure Dizzie is on page with that fantasy.  :)

I even managed to squeeze in a round of golf with my best friend Preston as well as Ms. Magan!  I learned that Ms. Magan does not tan, she just turns red.  :)

Do remember, that our exciting 8 week summer special for new junior members must be activated by July 15th. If you have a friend who has been on the fence about trying martial arts, this is their chance to give it a test run !  

Also, keep in mind that our final week of summer camp will begin on MONDAY, JULY 25th.  There are still a couple of spaces available !

Juniors, we have started giving out tickets for summer attendance so get into class and up the number of tickets you will have in this years drawing. This year's prize is a gift card to Friendly Shopping Center ! (Look at the top of the page to the right for more details! )

Safety Tip

General fitness can go a long way in helping you be able to protect yourself !  Even with basic defensive skills a fit person can be extremely successful in protecting themselves.  

 

On the other side of the coin I can't tell you how many extremely knowledgeable "Masters" I've seen that were so out of shape they would get tooled by any fit green belt in a straight up encounter.  

 

Your knowledge is only accessible to a fit body and balanced mind.

Taekwon-Do tip of the Month

When considering using Taekwon-Do for self defense purposes, keep in mind that Tk-D has an arsenal of strikes.  However, you have to know where strike not just how to strike.  Begin to study the weak parts of the body and which techniques you posses that can be used to each target.

EMA Hosted the World HapKiDo Association's President - Grand Master Tae Jung on June 25th, 2011 for a show stopping seminar!
