This month I'll be attending a special seminar in Clemmons that my friend Master Joe Needham is hosting where Helio Gracie's grandson will be teaching.
Next week we will have our first summer camp session of this year. As Master Ellen Hendrix wraps up the camp, I'll be heading up to Pittsburgh, PA, to help my good friends Joe Cosetino and Michael Aloia prepare for their World HapKiDo Association 3rd Degree black belt test. Then WHA president Grand Master Tae Jung will be flying in to Pittsburgh and I will assist him with the black belt test and a day long seminar.
However, the fun is only beginning on that trip. On the way home, I'm going to deplane during my connection in Washington, DC. I'm going to rent a car and head over to Baltimore, MD so I can get in a training session with my good friend and Paul Vunak's right hand man - Sifu Harinder Singh in Contemporary Jeet Kune Do.
Once I get home, I'll be back in town a few days and then Grand Master Jung will be arriving in Greensboro and we are going to hold a WHA Black Belt test and seminar at Essential Martial Arts!
What a June !
Also, several outstanding students were promoted to various black belt ranks at Essential Martial Arts over the past month.
We also have a great 8 week Summer Special starting for potential members. Lots of new students will be around our 3 campuses. Make sure to say "Hello" to our new students!
On a personal note, the past week has been a little wild. We had all three of our color belt test between last Thursday and this past Monday. Unfortunately, this past Monday, I also had to put my bulldogge Doezee to sleep. She was also one of EMA's mascots. One of our other Mascots (Liza the boxer) passed away two years ago on the same day I tested for Tk-D 7th Degree and Mrs. Master Hendrix tested for Tk-D 4th Degree. Doezee (and Liza) was an awesome friend and member of our family and will be greatly missed! She meant a lot to us. Safety Tip
I hate to sound like the founder of 'Rex-Kwon Do' but the smart way to leave a building at night or to travel through a suspect area is by using the "buddy system". Take a friend. There really is strength in numbers!

Jeet Kune Do and Philippine MA tip of the Month
| |
As you become for familiar with the Philippine martial arts side of Contemporary Jeet Kune Do, your skill in the sombrada drill will grow.
Apprentice instructors in particular should be able to disarm during sombrada. A simple stick disarm is the "Snake Disarm". Check out this short video for a quick lesson on this disarm.

Greensboro EMA Schedule Closings and Adjustments:
- No Thursday June 16th Lunch Classes in Greensboro.
(evening classes WILL meet)
- No Saturday, June 25th Greensboro classes.
- Grand Master Jung - the World HapKiDo Association President - will be here for a seminar on Saturday , June 25th. There will be no Greensboro classes that day! You may attend Oak Ridge or Stoney Creek!
- Note to Greensboro Jeet Kune Do and HapKiDo Students:
- Also, Greensboro Jeet Kune Do students, please make a note that you will meet from 6:25pm till 7:05 on Friday June 17th and Friday, June 24th.
- The Greensboro HapKiDo class will NOT meet on on Friday June 17th nor Friday, June 24th as there is HKD testings on those nights.Testing will begin at 7:30 both nights. Color belt testing on the 17th and Black Belt testing with Grand Master Jung on the 24th.
