| Bad Weather Policy |
Essential Martial Arts closes when Guilford County Schools close for inclement weather. We follow this policy for up to three consecutive days. After that we will take it on a day by day basis. To check if we are closed, call the office voice mail at 282-3000. |
Congratulations Feb. Testers
The EMA Feb.tests were... well... quite a test. Weather caused the Greensboro and Stoney Creek Taekwon-Do tests to be rescheduled and Master Hendrix trip to WHA winter camp in Denver, Colorado forced the HKD test to be rescheduled.
However, all went super well. The testers at all locations really put on a show and there is no doubt that those students will some day see their names listed in this newsletter as NEW BLACK BELTS!

Taekwon-Do Tip of the Month
FORMS/TUL Improvement:
TIP: Breath. Give an exhale on each movement. The exhale should be timed with the end of each movement. While there will be a "noise" from your breath it should be a result of the strong exhale and not a forced "his".
HapKiDo Tip of the Month:
Falling:
Falling is a point of fear for most people. However, it shouldn't be. TIP: Start SLOW and LOW. and work your way up. DO NOT fall from a position or technique you are not comfortable. Let the instructor know you aren't quiet ready yet. If a particular fall bothers an injury than abstain from that fall until you are completely healed.
Wing Chun Tip of the Month:
Chain Punching:
Chain TIP: Chain punches are NOT hammer fist. They should not "arc" over one another. Quiet the opposite. Once the first punch finishes, it will then "drop" slightly and begin to return to the start position to make way for the next punch coming.
Philippine Martial Arts Tip of the Month |
When practicing your knife drawing, generally do not put the knife back as the lead side until it is fully opened. Once it is open it can become a very formidable "first line" of defense. |
