Self-Defense and Safety Tip of the Month |
Looking for a great alarm system for your home? Consider getting an indoor dog. Even a small dog can be a great alarm and even a deterrent in the event of an attempted home invasion.
Interested in having Master Hendrix conduct one of his world class self defense seminars for your group or company? Email for costs and availability. MHendrix@EssentialMartialArts.com |

HapKiDo Tip of the Month
|
|
HapKiDo kicking was originated from the Korean kicking art of Taekyon. A unique aspect of this type of kicking is its directness and the identical initiation of each basic kick.
So, keep in mind the: Front, Round and Side Kick all begin in the same way appearing to be a simple front kick and then changing to the desired kick as the motion evolves. The advantage is that the opponent is led to believe they are simply defending a front kick. However, the kick can switch up mid-execution and hit them from a different angle. |
|
Taekwon-Do Tip of the Month
|
|
Remember, in the Essential Martial Arts ITF style Taekwon-Do program there are are two aspects to our Self-Defense (Ho Shin-Sul) curriculum. One is the actual hand to hand and partner drills that Master Hendrix has implemented and the other is the interpretation and apllication of the movements in the Tuls (forms). As you learn your new forms, begin to examine how each movement can be utilized for protection. |

Philippine Martial Arts Tip of the Month |
When practicing single and double stick striking be sure to fully chamber each strike. A very common mistake is to only make a "half" strike with little chamber.
You may think this short type of striking would be an advantage. Unfortunately it is a weak and slow way to strike.
When practicing, put a punching bag behind you and actually try to hit the bag on the chamber. | |
