ADVOCACY ALERT!

Before They (and You) Go on Vacation, Make a Call to SAVE STATE CHILD SERVICES

The US Senate is set to recess August 9, and is running out of time to consider bolstering federal support for state child services. The stimulus package passed in the spring of 2009 temporarily increased federal funding for vital child services like Medicaid and education, preventing cuts when families depended on them most. But the bump to that rate (known as FMAP) is set to expire, even with families still reeling from the recession.

Children nationwide will be harmed if FMAP funding is not continued. Slashed budgets for child welfare and mental health services, cuts to hospitals and public safety programs, and reduced access to health care for children are all expected if FMAP is not maintained.

Contact your US senators and tell them to Support FMAP, because it protects health, education and other vital state services for children. Move quickly, before Congress recesses, so special aid to children and families doesn't expire.

Call your senators at 1-866-277-7617, because children need your voice!
