ADVOCACY ALERT!

Round 1 of a Tough Budget Season

We know everyone is feeling the impact from hard economic times. Families, communities and schools are all tightening their belts.  The County, State and Federal government have huge budget challenges to manage... But budgets small and large should not be balanced on the backs of children.

Let Your Voice be Heard!

Thanks to those who have made calls, written letters, posted comments and attended legislative meetings. It has made a difference.  To date we have....

  • Restored some proposed cuts to community based prevention programs.
  • Packed the Board of Legislators' April 5th meeting with an overflow crowd of parents and advocates. View the video here.
  • Held discussions with the County Executive and Board of Legislators.

Keep on Speaking Out for Kids!
  • Attend and/or speak during the public comment period at the next Board of Legislators meetings on Monday, April 26, 7pm, Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Avenue, 8th floor, White Plains
  • Send a letter to the editor of the Journal News and post comments on LoHud message boards so they continue to feature articles on children's issues.
  • Attend the Children's Rally from the Westchester County Center to downtown White Plains Thursday, May 6th starting around 3:30 pm, following the Child Care Council of Westchester's Early Care and Education Conference. Click here to e-mail them if you would like to attend or for more information.

WCA is working with a number of other groups including the Child Care Council of Westchester, Campaign for Kids, the Early Childhood Director's Association, the Westchester Women's Agenda, and the School Age Director's Network.    All groups and individuals are urged to join in.
