ADVOCACY ALERT!
BUDGET UPDATES: County, State & Federal News

Westchester County

Thank County Executive Astorino and the County Board of Legislators for meeting with advocates to discuss the proposed $5.8million in reductions to social services, and their impact on children and families in Westchester.

Please urge County officials to keep children at the top of the public agenda. Remind that investments in children and youth have a high rate of return. Ask them to cut government, not services. Ask them to say NO to:
  • Reduced subsidies, cuts to scholarships, and increased parent fees for child day care;
  • Cuts to community-based services that help troubled families and prevent out-of-home placement;
  • Elimination of a contracted program that helps domestic abuse victims who are also involved in child welfare cases.

National

Thank Congress and President Obama for passing and signing into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. This legislation ensures that more than eight million uninsured children will get age-appropriate care, preventive medicine, protection from discrimination based on pre-existing conditions, and many other protections and services; and includes $1.5 billion over 5 years in mandatory funding for an innovative Home Visitation Grant Program for States.
