ADVOCACY ALERT:
Happy New Year from WCA!

WCA is thankful for your advocacy efforts for children and youth at the county and federal levels...

Westchester County's 2010 Budget
  • Early Step Forward - the Board of Legislators added $490,000 for a total allocation of $695,000.
  • Invest in Kids - the Board of Legislators restored the $200,000 the county Executive removed and added an additional $100,000 for a total 2010 funding level of $2,143,037.
  • Independent Living Fund - included in the Department of Social Services budget at $100,000, the same as 2009.

Federal Health Reform
  • After weeks of debate the Senate passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (HR 3590) which protects the Children's Healthy Insurance Program (CHIP) until 2019 and fully funds CHIP through 2015

Home Visitation
  • Both the House and Senate bills have included provisions that would provide the first federal funds dedicated to evidenced-based home visitation programs.

Ring in the New Year with renewed support

Let our Senators and Representatives know that any final health reform bill must...
  • Ensure gains made for children in CHIP be maintained until comparable health coverage is guaranteed through the health exchanges.
  • Include both the Medicaid Option and home visitation grant program.
