ADVOCACY ALERT:

How You Can Help With Health Care Reform

Kids and families in Westchester, and throughout the country, cannot wait for health care reform. The costs of this necessity are skyrocketing, bankrupting families, forcing employers to cut or drop coverage, and putting tremendous pressure on local, state, and federal budgets. The rising cost of care leaves 47 million Americans uninsured, including more than nine million childrenQuestion: HOW CAN I HELP?

Answer: EDUCATE YOURSELF
WCA's national partner, Voices for Children, has compiled an Advocacy Package of information that identifies key principles necessary in positive health care reform, including the coverage of all children, birth to age 21 that is affordable, accessible, and comprehensive.  The Advocacy Package also provides a comprehensive history of recent health care reform and information on the inclusion of funds for evidence-based home visitation programs.  Click here to view the Package.

The White House recently produced information that highlights what reform would mean for each individual state. You can access the information on New York by clicking here.

Each district in the nation has a Health Care Fact Sheet, available from the Committee on Energy and Commerce.  Information for Westchester is covered in the following three districts and representatives: Eliot Engel - District 17, Nita Lowey - District 18, John Hall - District 19 (PDF Reader Required).

Answer: CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES
As you likely know, Congress is in recess, which means that our federal representatives are working in their home districts and we have more access to them.  Please make it a point to visit, call, or e-mail your congressperson.  Also be on the lookout for upcoming Town Hall meetings, conference calls, and other ways to speak directly to your representative.
