Is your job making you depressed? What is the common denomenator? How can you feel better even if your job is in top ten depressive jobs list?

By Tammy Worth for Health.com (Vital information with a human touch)
Some jobs are more depression-prone than others.
Here are 10 fields (out of 21 major job categories) in which full-time workers are most likely to report an episode of major depression in a given year. But if you want to be a nurse (No. 4), it doesn't mean you s hould pick another profession.
"There are certain aspects of any job that can contribute to or exacerbate depression," says Deborah Legge, PhD, a licensed mental health counselor in Buffalo. "Folks with the high-stress jobs have a greater chance of managing it if they take care of themselves and get the help they need."

Why Do these jobs cause depression and burnout?
|
Notes from Carolyn The above article is really good, but I don't believe that it addresses a big part of the problem for many people. If you are in one of these jobs, chances are that you are in the 20% of people who are highly sensitive, or even an empath. Many of these careers, naturally attract people who are extremely sensitive and heart centered.
You've been called to do this work because you feel other's pain and want to help. It's this sensitivity that makes you good at what you do....and it's causing untold stress, probably more than you realize. For many this sensitivity is their blessing and their curse. Yes, each job has stress, deadlines and a lot of things out of your control. Most of us believe that it's that kind of stress that is getting us down. In actuality that's probably only a small part of the picture.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the real problem is that you are more than likely absorbing the mental, emotional, physical and even spiritual pain, anxiety, angst, fear and energies of those you work with, both clients/patients/customers and co-workers. 1 out of 5 people is highly sensitive to the emotions and energy of other people, and these professions tend to call to this group of sensitive, even empathic personalities. Read More about why these jobs are an issueAre you a highly sensitive person? Find out now______________________________________ As I was finishing this article I got a phone call from one of our customers who just quit her very stressful job as a speech and language pathologist and is starting up her massage business. I asked her what about the job was so stressful. She shared that it was for several reasons: Paperwork and legal pressure designed to protect the kids, but that took hours, often into the night, to complete each day making it difficult to do the job. And as you might expect there are issues working with kids under these circumstances. A lot of the kids have major issues. She was screemed at, scratched and bitten over the years. It was also heartbreaking to see what the kids needed and not always be able to do it because it didn't fall within specified guidelines. Do you have a story about a stressful job you'd like to share? What did you do? Were you able to make a change? What worked, what didn't? Your story maybe helpful for someone else. If I get some good responses, I may start a page sharing some of this information, or include it in future newsletters. Carolyn

Recharge Your Shield
|
Don't forget to recharge your shield.
Hang Shield in natural light either in a window, or preferably, outside. (More info about recharging) We usually just keep it on the cord or chain, and loop it over a lawn chair. This allows it to hang freely and absorb the energy from the sun. (Be sure you secure the loop by wrapping around something, then pull Shield through the loop, pull to make sure it can't come off)IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE A SUNNY DAY for you to recharge your Shield. It's not the light that the shield needs; it's the energy vibration from the sun that recharges the crystals. However, bright sunlight does make it charge faster. So, if it's sunny, leave it out for 3 continuous hours; if cloudy, for 6 continuous hours. If you are hanging it in a window that blocks certain parts of the light spectrum, leave it for 8 hours. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SHIELD OUT IN THE MOONLIGHT! The moon is reflected energy from the sun, thus it pulls energy away from your Shield. If you ever forget, hang your Shield out for twice as many hours as it was left in the moonlight. To insure it is functioning at 100%, you can send it in for recharging and repolishing.
Suggestion for worry-free recharging: Recharge your Shield during the New Moon (dark) phase. That way if you do forget and leave it out overnight, there's no harm done, as there is no moonlight shining on it to drain it. ROOM SHIELD NOTE: Your Room Shield is constantly recharging using the ambient light in the room. Unless you have it in a completely windowless room, you don't need to recharge your Room Shield. If you haven't charged your Shield regularly for more than two years, you may want to get it recharged by us in our Montana crystal charging circle. POLISHING It's summer and silver and brass both tend to tarnish more when it's hot, humid and you're, well, sweaty. Sorry, just can't think of a better way to say it. You can polish your silver chains and Shields with any commercial silver polish. Brass can be cleaned with Brass or other brass cleaners. Or you can order our treated polishing cloths - they do a great job, and no liquid mess. We recently found a video discussing various polishing cloths, and this one was judged the best on the market by professional jewelers. Order your polishing kit____________________________
