I'm sure you've all had this experience. I was at a lunch networking event a few days ago and everyone was discussing the fact that Christmas decorations were up, and it wasn't even Thanksgiving yet.
One of the women piped up, laughing as she spoke, "Ladies let's get used to it,there's a new marketing holiday, ThanksMass. In the retail/marketing world Thanksgiving and Christmas kind of just blur together. For years we've been complaining about Christmas decorations and ads going up just before Thanksgiving, and each year it's gotten even earlier, now Christmas is on display even before Halloween. Okay, so things aren't like they used to be.
Do you really want to spend this much time and energy complaining about something you can't change? Imagine how many times you'll make this same complaint between now and Christmas. Yeah, just think about that. Wouldn't it be more productive use of your resources to focus on something positive."
The more I thought about it, the more I agreed with her. We've all listened to our parents and other people bemoan how things have changed from the old days. Seriously, do you want to become one of the curmudgeonly old people spending most of their time complaining about things that have changed? I sure don't.
So how can this ThanksMass holiday be a positive thing?
As a consumer you get lots and lots of sales between now and the holidays. This gives you plenty of time to decide what to get, compare prices, and shop at your leisure.
Back to my main point, because actually the positive side of this new holiday is just more of an aside.
My real point is - we should think about the time we spend complaining about things that aren't going to change, people who don't use their turn signals, holidays, the weather, prices, the cable company, politics... I'm sure you if you pay attention you can add a dozen things to this list in just a day or two.
Instead find things to comment on that are positive. Maybe even talk about changes that have happened that made a positive difference in your life.
Give the world and your life a lot more gratitude and you'll feel a lot more positive and a lot less curmudgeonly.

6 Modern Gadgets That Affect Your Health | Friday, October 22, 2010 8:06 AM

By Sylvia Booth Hubbard
You may not be able to live without your cell phone or laptop, but evidence is mounting that the fun, useful gadgets of modern life, such as cell phones and computers, may be affecting your health - raising the risk of headache, infertility, and even brain cancer.
1. Laptops
Holding your laptop too close to the skin for long periods of time can result in "toasted skin syndrome," a permanent, mottled-look that is caused by long-term heat exposure. In rare cases, the laptops can lead to the type of damage that causes skin cancers, according to Swiss researchers. Be safe, they suggest, by placing the computer in a carrying case or using a heat shield if you hold it in your lap.
Another report found elevated scrotum temperatures in men who rested laptops on their laps. Prolonged heat can lead to reduced sperm production and affect fertility.

2. iPods and headphones
A new study found that nearly 1 in 5 American teens have hearing loss, and the problem is increasing. Experts blame using earbud headphones on personal music players, such as iPods and MP3 players. Hearing loss can occur in as short as an hour and 15 minutes.
A study conducted at Northwestern University found hearing loss in young people who used headphones that was similar to that found in the aging adults. Experts advise using larger headphones that cover the ear opening instead of going inside it.

10 Ways to Beat Fatigue
October 5, 2010 by Dr. Mark Wiley
Reprinted from Personal Liberty Digest
Each day more than 2 million Americans complain of feeling fatigue in addition to the 4 million who have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. With this chronic tiredness often comes lack of focus, feelings of being overwhelmed, flu-like symptoms, memory loss, chronic aches and pains, restless sleep, short temper and even depression.
While many people accept their tiredness as part and parcel of their daily lives, it needn't be the standard way of life. Yes, we are more overworked and under more stress than ever, but that doesn't have to be the case.
The following 10 lifestyle changes can make all the difference over time, if embraced as a new lifestyle approach to wellness.
1. Eat four to six times per day - In the past 10 years the idea of ditching the "three square meals a day" plan has proven successful. In its place is the three-hour diet, or eating something every three to four hours. Eating more frequently prevents one from overeating at one sitting, which zaps energy and retards digestion. Eating smaller meals more frequently also helps sustain a steady level of energy throughout the day, which helps avoid the "two o'clock crash."
2. Consume energy-giving foods - While eating more frequently is a great way to stay energized, eating the wrong foods over and over will take the wind right out of you. To get the best energy results from food it is important to eat plenty of fiber, which helps clean fats from blood and create bulk to move stools - this frees up energy in the body. Consuming complex carbohydrates like whole grain breads, seeds and pasta provides glucose for brainpower and sustained fuel for physical energy. Eating lean protein also adds fuel for the body. And where carbohydrates are fast-burning (instant energy) fuel, proteins provide slower burning (continuous energy) for the day. Drinking plenty of filtered or distilled water keeps the body hydrated, helps move toxins from the body and aids the kidneys.
3. Avoid energy-sapping foods - Food is certainly the main source of energy for us humans, but consuming the wrong types of food can drain and waste energy faster than we want it to. The basic idea is to avoid all foods that create an instant energy rush as a sudden energy crash is soon to follow. Energy-zapping foods include caffeine, soda, coffee, chocolate, sugar and simple carbohydrates like white bread, rice and potatoes. The energy derived from such foods is fast to come and go, is harassing to the metabolism and wreaks havoc with one's energy. In short, they cause fatigue.
4. Cut out the cancer - In this sense, "cancer" is any person, place or thing that is in your life that saps your energy and spirit. If you don't remove these things, then your energy will be drained each day. You know those friends or co-workers who expect too much from you and always ask too much of your time? Set clear boundaries and don't allow them instant access to you or your time. Does your email fill up too fast? There is no reason to read and answer every correspondence right away. Create email folders and prioritize which ones you read and respond to, and when. Don't allow work to interfere with personal time. Pay bills on time. Avoid unnecessary arguments. Let go of old grudges. All of these tips will cut out the old and free up stores of energy that have needlessly been wasted and made you tired and fatigued.

Recharge Your Shield
|
Don't forget to recharge your shield.
Hang Shield in natural light either in a window, or
preferably, outside. (More info about recharging) We usually just keep it on the cord or chain, and loop it over a lawn
chair. This allows it to hang freely and absorb the energy from the sun. (Be sure you secure the loop by wrapping around something, then pull Shield through the loop, pull to make sure it can't come off)
IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE A SUNNY DAY for you to
recharge your Shield.
It's not the light that the shield needs; it's the energy vibration
from the sun that recharges the crystals. However, bright sunlight does
make it charge faster. So, if it's sunny, leave it out for 3 continuous
hours; if cloudy, for 6 continuous hours. If you are hanging it in a
window that blocks certain parts of the light spectrum, leave it for 8
hours. DO
NOT LEAVE YOUR SHIELD OUT IN THE MOONLIGHT! The moon is reflected
energy from the sun, thus it pulls energy away from your Shield. If you
ever forget, hang your Shield out for twice as many hours as it was
left in the moonlight. To insure it is functioning at 100%, you can
send it in for recharging and repolishing. Our consultant examines each
Shield that is sent in to make sure it has received a full charge from
our crystal room.
Suggestion
for worry-free recharging: Recharge your Shield during the New Moon
(dark) phase. That way if you do forget and leave it out overnight,
there's no harm done, as there is no moonlight shining on it to drain
it. ROOM SHIELD NOTE: Your Room Shield is constantly recharging using the ambient light in the room. Unless you have it in a completely windowless room, you don't need to recharge your Room Shield. If you haven't charged your Shield regularly for more than two years, you may want to get it recharged by us in our Montana crystal charging circle. POLISHING It's summer and silver and brass both tend to tarnish more when it's hot, humid and you're, well, sweaty. Sorry, just can't think of a better way to say it.
You can polish your silver chains and Shields with any commercial silver polish. Brass can be cleaned with Brass or other brass cleaners.
Or you can order our treated polishing cloths - they do a great job, and no liquid mess. I just saw a video discussing various polishing cloths, and this one was judged the best on the market by professional jewelers. Order your polishing kit
NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING ON POLISHING KITS - If this is your only item, our system will charge you between $8&$9, (Our system just can't fathom that we can put them in an envelope and ship) Go ahead and select that option and to make up for the shipping overcharge we'll send you TWO polishing kits.
