Study Finds Pesticides Double Risk of ADHD in Our Children*

 For years environmentalists and natural health advocates have been trying to point out that organophosphate pesticides (malathion, etc.) work by disrupting the neurological systems of insects, and therefore humans who consume them on foods are at risk of neurological problems. Now, after millions of kids have been diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder), it is finally being admitted. In a new study just published in Pediatrics, researchers from the University of Montreal and Harvard University found evidence strongly indicating that pesticides could be a major cause of the alarming rise in ADHD in our children. Children who had higher than average biomarkers for organophosphate pesticides were nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD. Previous studies found that pesticides may contribute to hyperactivity and cognitive problems in animals, but the new study is among the first to determine that it affects humans, too.
Among the study's findings: * Children who have high levels of pesticide residues are 93% more likely to have ADHD. and * For every 55% increase in residue in urine, there is a 10% greater risk of ADHD.

UCLA Study "On Friendship Among
Women" an Alternative to Fight or Flight

A landmark UCLA study suggests friendships between women are special. They
shape who we are and who we are yet to be. They soothe our tumultuous inner
world, fill the emotional gaps in our marriage, and help us remember who we
really are.
By the way, they may do even more. Scientists now suspect that hanging out with
our friends can actually counteract the kind of stomach-quivering stress most
of us experience on a daily basis. A landmark UCLA study suggests that
women respond to stress with a cascade of brain chemicals that cause us to make
and maintain friendships with other women. It's a stunning find that has
turned five decades of stress research--most of it on men--upside down.
Until this study was published, scientists generally believed that when people
experience stress, they trigger a hormonal cascade that revs the body to either
stand and fight or flee as fast as possible, explains Laura Cousin Klein,
Ph.D., now an Assistant Professor of Bio-behavioral Health at Penn State
University and one of the study's authors. It's an ancient survival mechanism
left over from the time we were chased across the planet by saber-toothed
tigers.
Now the researchers suspect that women have a larger behavioral repertoire than
just fight or flight; in fact, says Dr. Klein, it seems that when the
hormone oxytocin is released as part of the stress responses in a woman, it
buffers the fight or flight response and encourages her to tend children and
gather with other women instead. When she actually engages in this tending or
befriending, studies suggest that more oxytocin is released, which further
counters stress and produces a calming effect.
This calming response does not occur in men, says Dr. Klein, because
testosterone---which men produce in high levels when they're under
stress---seems to reduce the effects of oxytocin. Estrogen; she adds,
seems to enhance it.
The discovery that women respond to stress differently than men was made in a
classic "aha" moment shared by two women scientists who were talking
one day in a lab at UCLA. There was this joke that when the women who
worked in the lab were stressed, they came in, cleaned the lab, had coffee, and
bonded, says Dr. Klein. When the men were stressed, they holed up
somewhere on their own. I commented one day to fellow researcher Shelley
Taylor that nearly 90% of the stress research is on males. I showed her the
data from my lab, and the two of us knew instantly that we were onto
something.

How can you make this vacation RELAXING, not one you need a vacation to

It's summer and hopefully you're taking some time off to enjoy some travel, family, or just to rest and recuperate.
Most of us spend our time planning What we're going to do and give little thought to How we're going to do it. - Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, airports, strange cities, hotels....all are awash with other people's energy. Recharge your Shield
|
Don't forget to recharge your shield.
Hang Shield in natural light either in a window, or
preferably, outside. (More info about recharging) We usually just keep it on the cord or chain, and loop it over a lawn
chair. This allows it to hang freely and absorb the energy from the sun. (Be sure you secure the loop by wrapping around something, then pull Shield through the loop, pull to make sure it can't come off)
IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE A SUNNY DAY for you to
recharge your Shield.
It's not the light that the shield needs; it's the energy vibration
from the sun that recharges the crystals. However, bright sunlight does
make it charge faster. So, if it's sunny, leave it out for 3 continuous
hours; if cloudy, for 6 continuous hours. If you are hanging it in a
window that blocks certain parts of the light spectrum, leave it for 8
hours.  DO
NOT LEAVE YOUR SHIELD OUT IN THE MOONLIGHT! The moon is reflected
energy from the sun, thus it pulls energy away from your Shield. If you
ever forget, hang your Shield out for twice as many hours as it was
left in the moonlight. To insure it is functioning at 100%, you can

Suggestion
for worry-free recharging: Recharge your Shield during the New Moon
