FIGHT FLEAS NATURALLY
A multi-level approach is the most successful, so here are some tips and product suggestions to help you and your pet lead a less scratchy life this Spring.
This may not sound as convenient as squeezing something on once a month, but the long-term payoff of natural care is immeasurable.
#1 - Get your pet in good health. The healthier the animal is from the inside, the less attractive they are to parasites. Make sure you're including fresh food in their diet, and use natural supplements that help optimize their overall health and immune system. These supplements range from the basics of fish oil and "green" supplements (Green Mush, Organic Green Alternative, Sparkle, and others) to specific ones for detoxifying (Animals' Apawthecary Detox Blend) or building the immune system (Organic Pet Superfood, Invigor).
#2- Don't let your home be a haven. If your home is carpeted you should consider using
Flea Busters Rx, or
Eliminates Fleas in your carpet (steam clean first for best results).
Only Natural's All-In-One Flea Remedy is made of diatomaceous earth, so it can be used in more exposed areas under rugs and baseboards, under bedding and cushions, and even outdoors. Remember to wash your pet's bedding weekly to reduce flea reproduction. Outdoors apply
beneficial nematodes as a non-toxic yard treatment.
#3 - Keep it simple. A flea comb is the easiest and safest answer to fleas. Just comb through, trap the the fleas on the comb, and wipe them off into a small amount of any kind of soapy water (any soap kills fleas). You can do a lot by spending less than a minute a day on this easy grooming task.
#4 -Keep it natural. You don't want to harm your pet trying to help them. We have plenty of safe, natural products to use internally and topically on your pet.
We've just gotten in a new liquid supplement called FLEA FREE that we've heard rave reviews about. Its base is apple cider vinegar, with garlic, citrus, and added enzymes and herbs. You add it your pet's drinking water and food daily, it's safe for dogs and cats of all ages. You'll see results within a month, but best results are achieved when you use it in conjunction with their natural deterrant spray and herbal shampoo.
We have several sprays and shampoos to choose from that use essential oils. We hear especially good things about the Neem products, and neem is also good for preventing secondary infections from lots of scratching. Finally, we have De Flea spray and shampoo that kills fleas and flea eggs on contact without harming your pet. It doesn't have a residual effect but can be followed up with the the other deterrant options.
