 What you may not know about your pet's vaccines Did you know that your adult pet doesn't need to have vaccinations every year?
Most vaccines provide immunity for several years. You should get an annual exam done on your pet, but that doesn't have to include vaccinations.
Did you know that sick pets or pets with chronic disease shouldn't be vaccinated?
Even the vaccine companies indicate this on their instructions to veterinarians, but countless animals are still vaccinated when exhibiting signs of disease. Pets with issues such as epilepsy, cancer, and auto-immune diseases should never be vaccinated. Your vet can write a waiver for your pet if needed to exempt them from required vaccinations such as rabies.
Did you know that if your pet has an anaphylactic allergic reaction to a vaccine they should never get that vaccine again?
If your vet tries to reassure you that they just need to have emergency medication on hand the next time, it's time for you to find another vet.
There is a lot of confusing information out there about vaccinations. It's important to educate yourself about the issue so you can make an informed decision about your pet's care. Why are we so concerned? Because we see the results from improper vaccinations every day at Dexter's in dogs and cats suffering from terrible immune dysfunction problems.
