DENTAL CARE COUNTS!
Dexter just had to have some teeth pulled... a lot of teeth! But don't worry, he's feeling much better now that he's pain free. We were worried, of course, for him to have surgery at the age of 16, but he came through with flying colors, thanks to his years of fresh food and holistic care.
Dr. Kirk Feinberg of Governor Animal Clinic did Dexter's surgery, which included the x-rays that revealed the bone loss that couldn't be seen from the surface.
This reminded us to remind all of you of the important of proper dental care for dogs. Not only regular brushing at home, and non-anesthesia scaling at Dexter's, but also thorough exams by your veterinarian.
We'll be coming out with an Info Sheet on this topic soon, with detailed information, and questions to ask your vet.
Your pet's teeth may look fine to you, but there may be hidden problems. If your pet's behavior changes and they seem grumpy or depressed, or your pet no longer wants to chew on their usual hard toys, food, or treats, they may have a hidden dental problem that needs veterinary care.
 He's 16 and goin' strong!
Dexter is the perfect example of blending complimentary and traditional care. He's had a raw food diet, natural chew treats, non-anesthesia cleanings, regular vet check-ups, and finally extractions that we hope will give him more years of pain-free health.
