The Grammar School Wednesday Notice
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
January 4, 2012
FROM THE DESK OF STEVE LORENZ
Happy New Year 2012! The Grammar School staff and faculty offer our families a happy and healthy new year as we look forward to a successful second semester this winter and spring.

Faculty/Staff Luncheon Gratitude

The staff and faculty would like to thank the many parents who donated food, drink, and time to the annual Holiday Luncheon. The delicious meal and wonderful ambience were much appreciated. This is an afternoon that staff and faculty look forward to each year. Parents' dishes and pots from the luncheon are on the table in the teachers' room.

School Dress Code - Your Support Required

Once again I remind parents and students that we have a dress code at TGS. The faculty and staff rely on the good judgment and support of students and parents about what clothing is presentable and comfortable for the rest of the community. How students dress after school hours is an individual choice, but how students dress during school hours is a community decision based on the fact that we are a preK-8th grade school. Please review the dress code from the Student and Parent handbook (see below) and share it with your child(ren). We ask that parents and children make sensible, thoughtful decisions about appropriate clothing for school, so faculty and staff do not have to enforce the dress code. Thank you.

What to Wear/What Not to Wear

At The Grammar School, appropriate dress should be loose enough, opaque enough, and cover enough of the body to avoid being a distraction to others or making others uncomfortable. Clothing should cover the midriff. Tops and shirts should not be too low cut or revealing, and shorts and skirts should not be too short. Boys' and girls' undergarments should be covered. (Student and Parent Handbook, page 11.)

Thank you,

Steve Lorenz

This is special class held on site at the Grammar School in Putney. PUTNEY FOOD SHELF

To quote the Food Shelf staff in Putney: "It takes a village, and neighbors helping neighbors is truly taken seriously by TGS. The 25 families we help weekly are grateful. The continued support of TGS is overwhelming. Thank you!"

For the month of January, the 8th grade class is leading the collection of non-perishable items donated to the Putney Food Shelf. Boxes at the upper school and outside the main office are there for all contributions. Thank you!

FREE Waxing Demo @ West Hill Shop

Monday, January 9 - Glide waxing - First timers 5:30 pm, veterans 6:30 pm.

Monday, January 16 - Kick waxing - First timers 5:30 pm, Veterans 6 pm.

Keep your skis gliding and kicking with waxing "how-to" tips from Drew Gelinas (veteran U.S. Ski Team service tech and glide specialist, and currently Nordic director for Swix). You do not need race skis to benefit from this demonstration. Most cross-country skis need regular hot waxing to keep them gliding well. This year our wax demo is designed to help make glide waxing easy to understand for the beginner. And for the veteran waxers, Drew will answer any questions, show technique for racers, including for marathons, and share the latest tips on how to get the ultimate glide. We're offering two sessions: 5:30 pm if you are just starting to do your own hot waxing, and 6:30 pm for the old dog looking for some new tricks, and race tips. Coupons for waxing supplies are available for anyone who signs up before the wax demo, just send us an email: Sign me up, and I'll take one of those coupons! Special orders will be placed for up to 20% off brushes, irons and more, with coupon. Hope to see you there! From the West Hill Shop Crew - Jim, Diny, David, Andrew and Pip
