FROM THE DESK OF STEVE LORENZ

jajapam
JaJa and Pam!
Happy Long Weekend to One and All - The Grammar School faculty and staff wish you all a happy and fun filled long weekend. See you back in school on Monday, October 24.

The Medieval Faire - A Royal Success - As the "Lord of the Manor" I proclaim the Medieval Faire a "Royal Success." Once again, by proclamation, the King and Queen produced  a beautiful day. The village was abuzz with merriment, food, fun, and mischief. Approximately 1200 ladies, gentlemen, and children from the far reaches of the kingdom attended this year's festivities. As you know, this day only happens by virtue of us all  coming together as a "community with a  purpose." Thank you to our parents, students, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends for your help that came in so many different forms. This day could not be without all of you!

The success of the day can be measured in many ways: the money raised for scholarships and programs, the community coming together to work and have fun, and the many visitors who experienced and saw The Grammar School at its best. A very special thank you to the Medieval Faire coordinators, various committees, heads of various departments, events, and activities, and to those of you who quietly did so much.

Thank you,
Steve

Steve Lorenz
Head of School
THANKS TO STUDENT WORKERS
A big thank you goes out to all the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who worked at the Medieval Faire! You were all cheerful, helpful, and incredibly gracious to all the younger children who attended the Faire. Please give yourselves a nice big pat on the back for a job well done. We couldn't have done it without you!

Bluebird Orchestra CD Release Party October 29 at 7:00 pm at The Hooker Dunham Theater, 139 Main Street, Brattleboro, VT, hookerdunham.org,
802-254 9276.

Hatched from the same nest as The Bluebird Marionette Theatre of Saxtons River, The Orchestra draws its influences from diverse corners, including the Carter Family, The Incredible String Band, Kurt Weill, and Thelonious Monk, while always keeping one foot in traditional American roots music. In any particular tune, you may encounter elements of folk, rock,  early Jazz, Klezmer or Polka music. The new self-titled CD is a collection of songs written by Saaf with his wife, artist Julia Zanes, but the band itself is a true collaboration of talented local musicians.

The ensemble features Donald Saaf  on vocals, guitar, and reed organ, Duke Johnson on the standup bass,  Rick Contino on pedal steel, and Paul Mctaggart on drums. The CD also includes the amazing Anna Patton as a guest artist. Their music has been described as beautiful, sometimes sad, poignant and funny, sung and played with gusto, and sure to delight any audience.
