ART NEWS!

JOAN

Joan Peters, a local artist, and costumer for Deerfield Academy, spent all day Tuesday working with the fourth graders. Joan brought a wealth of talent and ideas to this one day residency, which is funded by our grant from the Clowes Foundation. She helped the students create a fabric mural with detachable stuffed animals. Watch for the finished piece.  You can check out some of her work at her website http://www.joanpetersdesign.com/. Some of you may know her from her Costume and Clothing Design class at TGS Studio Camp.

ADOPT A CRANE!

By Andrew Brooks

The fourth grade Fundraiser for the Japanese Red Cross ADOPT A CRANE has started! Now through the end of April, the fourth grade is letting people adopt cranes for $1.50 each or an entire crane family (five of them) for $5. The paper cranes that have been adopted will be strung up around the school for everyone to see. In Japan it is said that if you fold one thousand paper cranes your wish will come true; the fourth grade wants to send their wishes to Japan in every crane they make. Our goal is to make one thousand cranes. The money we give to the Japanese Red Cross will help them save the people who have been hurt by the natural disasters in Japan.

To adopt a crane, you may come down to the fourth grade classroom and write your name and the quantity you would like to adopt. Also, each fourth grader will be bringing home a sign up sheet so that you can contact one of them to adopt a crane.

Thanks for your time!

 Andrew Brooks, 4th Grade

PUTNEY FOOD SHELF

Recently our assistance was sought to help with an exceptionally difficult month for folks that currently depend on the Putney Food Shelf to feed their families. It is sad to think that so many people near our school community are in such need. It is also an honor that they turned to us for support. We did not disappoint them! Thank you all who have continuously given throughout the school year, to those who put an extra effort to your giving this tough month of March, and to those who will give in April. LIBBY AND THE KINDERGARTEN CLASS ARE COLLECTING FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL. Boxes are in their classroom and outside Tammy's office.  Again, thank you.  Linda

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

On April 15th from 12:30-4:30 pm, The Grammar School will be offering a half day of parent/teacher conferences. As you know, these conferences are an important method of communicating between school and home. We offer conferences in August, October, January and April. The April conferences offer another way for parents to check in with teachers and vice versa.

Conferences for 5th-8th graders are by teacher or parent request. Because we have only a half-day of conferences, the number of conference slots is limited, and we may need to accommodate requested conferences at a mutually convenient time on another day. Teachers of these grades are not expecting to see every parent.

The preschool-4th grade teachers would like to see all parents, if possible. Again, conference slots are limited and will be twenty minutes in length, and we may need to accommodate some conferences on different days.

We ask for your patience and consideration of the limited time. Please call our office manager Tammy for an appointment.

PLEASE RETURN RENTED SKIS

Please return any rented ski equipment to Deb Gray!
