WASTE FREE LUNCH TOMORROW! TGS students and staff will celebrate another waste-free lunch (e.g. reusable containers vs. single-use packaging) on Thursday, January 20th.
The idea behind the waste-free lunch is to eliminate all the food packaging for that day's lunch as a way of reducing what we send to the landfill each week. TGS throws away about 12 pounds of non-recyclable, non-compostable trash at workjobs each day. The majority of this waste is food packaging from the day's snacks and lunches. Our composting partnership allows us to reduce our landfill waste by composting paper products and food waste, among other items. For more information, please visit
www.wastefreelunches.org.
Please help us to celebrate a truly waste-free lunch on January 20th!

Our Library's 50th Birthday
Thursday, February 3rd
Each year we celebrate our wonderful library with a birthday party that includes fun entertainment provided by various classes, opening gifts from students, and all delighting in delicious cupcakes. In two weeks, on Thursday, February 3rd, our Library will be celebrating a landmark 50th birthday in a new space!
If you would like to send a gift to the birthday party, a library wish list can be found on the library web page and one will be sent home with each student. With the demise of a bookstore in Putney, Village Square Booksellers in Bellows Falls has agreed to have a special display of books from the wish list plus some great paperbacks. Books may also be ordered online and I'll make sure that they are delivered to the library. To order please visit http://www.villagesquarebooks.com/grammar-school-library-50th-birthday-wishlist.
If you opt instead to give a book from your child's bookshelf, please check that the book is in mint condition and that we do not have a copy in the library. While all thoughtfully selected gifts are greatly appreciated, our new library no longer has room for duplicate or worn copies of books.
Bakers...once again, if you would be willing to contribute a dozen cupcakes for the birthday party, please let me know. We estimate that we will need eleven dozen.
At TGS we are fortunate to have a library that receives support from so many. Parents generously volunteer in the library, encourage students to use the library regularly, read with their children during the March Reading Challenge, participate in the book fair, and contribute to the library through gifts and donations. As always, we are grateful for your support.
The library birthday party is an enjoyable event for everyone. If you would be willing to bake a dozen cupcakes or if you have any questions, please contact me at school, home (869-1467), or by email.
Thank you,
Ponnie
