Ski/Skate Sale - Fundraiser for Bill Koch Ski League

This is our final plea for ski/skate and winter apparel contributions for our sale this Friday, December 3rd, from 3:15 to 5 pm. Please deliver all items to school by Thursday at pick up time. This is a great opportunity for you to pass on your outgrown equipment and retain a percentage of the sale to purchase other equipment. Reminder: please mark your items with your name and the percentages for you and for BKSL, i.e. 60/40 indicates that the donor gets 60% and BKSL gets 40%. Thanks, Deb

Bill Koch League forms are available on the parent resources and sports pages, and in Tammy's office.

Professional Development at The Grammar School

Professional development for faculty and staff at The Grammar School occurs on a regular basis. Improving oneself as a professional educator is important. The Grammar School recognizes the value of professional development by funding and encouraging these experiences. Professional Development comes in the form of seminars, classes, conferences, peer coaching, school visits, formal observations and evaluations, faculty and staff meetings, and more.

My Head of School report this month focuses on the many professional development opportunities and peer coaching partnerships that have or will be occurring this school year. You can find my report on the website in the Parent Resources section under Head of School Page.

Three TGS composers will journey to the Opus 21 concert on December 6th to hear their compositions played live by professional musicians. Congratulations to Isaac, Jamie and Russell on being selected by the VT Midi Project for this great honor. For info visit: www.vtmidi.org/opus21.htm

'Tis the Season for Financial Aid Forms

Families interested in applying for financial aid for the 2011-12 academic year should start getting organized now.  Planning ahead is key to ensuring that your application is complete, error free and submitted on time.

If you are currently receiving aid, you should expect a packet of materials with instructions and application to arrive at your home this week.

If you are not receiving aid and would like to apply for next year, please pick up or request a copy of the instruction booklet and forms from Meg Lyons in the Admission Office.

As in the past, all applications for financial aid will be handled through the Admission Office in partnership with the School and Student Services by NAIS (SSS). This is a financial aid management service used by more than 2300 K-12 independent schools throughout the country to help assess a family's ability to pay school costs in a way that promotes objectivity, fairness, and consistency.

The timetable for financial aid this year is as follows:

December - Families receive SSS applications and instruction booklets, carefully review instructions, gather documents and start to complete paperwork.
January 5 - Last day to mail hard copy applications to SSS
January 15 - Last day to submit on-line applications to SSS
February - Financial Aid Committee reviews all applications
March 15 - Award letters sent to families

It's important to note that the application process for financial assistance is confidential. If you need help, please contact
Meg Lyons in Admission or Deb Gray in the Business Office.
