Students Arriving Late at TGS
Please make an effort to have your child(ren) to school on time. A child arriving late not only misses important and fun learning opportunities but also disrupts the teacher teaching and the other students learning. Arriving late is not a good way for a child to begin his or her day and puts them at a disadvantage for the remainder of the school day. All late arrivals are recorded, along with absences, and placed on a transcript in each student's personal records. These records are requested and sent to secondary schools during the application process. In the past, chronic patterns of lateness and absenteeism have put into question a student being accepted by a secondary school. We value your investment in your child's education as we know you do.
Students should arrive by 8:15 with classes beginning at 8:20.
Steve Lorenz, Head of School

Dear TGS Community,
We would like to send out a huge thank you to the entire TGS community! It truly takes a village to raise a Medieval village. Without the help and support of every single family, student and faculty member,  the Faire could not happen. It is an enormous undertaking and a wonderful event. At first tally it appears that it was as successful financially and attendance-wise as last year's terrific Faire. Thank you everyone of you for stepping up to the plate and making this event an EVENT!

We would like to say special thank yous to the heads of each event, the behind-the-scenes supporters and others:  Ellisa McClean for Make and Take, Natalie Thomson for the dungeon, costumes and photo booth, Sheri Momaney, the fortune teller, Donald, Julia, Isak and Ole Saaf for the new and wonderful addition of the Bluebird Marionette Theater. Thank you Julie Jensen, Lisa Stolper and Reg Rockefeller for the Marketplace, Barb Silbey for the raffle and Laura Gaudette for the Apothecary as well as Jared Stolper, Josh Maiocco, Bahman Mahdavi, Nick Racco and friends for the music. We thank Ponnie Derby for the book faire, Evie Lovett for the huge undertaking of the Tavern and pretzels and Dondo Cuerdon and Libby Cowan, freezing for their kingdom. We thank Jo Golden for her ponies, Charlie Boswell for the obstacle course, and Ken Brautigam, Melanie Kent and Jennifer Freeman for stepping up and taking on Merlins Midway. Thanks to Jenn Donovan for the decorations, Sean and Wendy Brennan and the VA Crew, Tara and Deb for handling the $ and the job assignments, Kati Thomas and Ray Hutchins. Thank you Tim Weed for scavenger hunt,  Tammy White for fielding phone calls and handling ticket and raffle sales, Pam Lierle for watching our backs and helping us pull everything together in the end, and the "wrecking crew" : Donald Saaf, David Wozniak, Mark Voorhees, Seth Harlow, Anton Wozniak and Grace Voorhees, Andy Rockefeller, Steve Lorenz. We  are grateful to the dozens of companies who donated their services and products. An extra kudos  to Chris Harlow, who tirelessly and undauntedly makes this Faire happen. Thank you all!

Student and Parent Handbook Focus
I am periodically asked about the governance structure of The Grammar School. The questions I am asked usually have to do with certain decision making as it relates to the Head of School and the Trustees. Please find below the TGS governance structure as stated in Section One, Page Six of our current handbook.
Steve Lorenz, Head of School

Governance
A board of trustees, comprised of parents and community members, governs the Grammar School. In addition, the Head of School is an ex-officio, non-voting member. There is also a non-voting faculty representative appointed by the faculty annually. The board governs in accordance with corporation by-laws adopted on November 18, 1998 and revised on May 19, 1999 and April 19, 2000.

Decisions exclusive to the trustees include:
Approval of the Mission
Appointment of, compensation for, and annual review of the Head of School
Long term planning and financial security
Establishment of policies

Decisions in partnership with the Head of School include:
Development of policies
Budget development, approval, and authorization of resource allocation
Fund raising requirements
Optimal enrollment targets

Decisions Exclusive to the Head of School include:
Admission
Staffing and employment contracts
Program and plant oversight and management
Administrative procedures and information systems management
Crisis management planning and oversight

Much of the work of the Board is accomplished by several standing committees: Executive, Development, Evaluation, Finance and Investment, Building and Grounds, Personnel, and Committee on Trustees. Each committee consists of at least three members: a chair, a representative from the staff, and a member of the larger community (including parents, friends, or alumni). Other committees may be formed at the discretion of the Board of Trustees, and may include: Technology, Marketing, Major Gifts, or Environmental Responsibility.
