Curriculum Nights - This Wednesday and Thursday 6:30pm

Wednesday, September 23 will be for the 5th-8th grade parents. The format will be similar to last year with an additional opportunity. At 6:30pm sharp we will all meet in the theater space. During this time the specialist teachers will each give a 5 minute overview of their programs. Then the core academic teachers for 6,7, and 8th grade will give an overview of their subject areas. Parents of 5th Graders will return to their classrooms after the specialists have presented. Parents of 6,7,8th graders, after the core academic subject overviews, will join their student's homeroom teacher.  Finally at 7:30pm until 8:00pm all interested parents are invited to visit with Alli Lubin in the Tech Lab. She will take parents through the TGS web site and discuss how to access various areas of the site. If there is time she will demonstrate some of the programs students are using in their tech classes.

Thursday, September 24 will be for the K-4th grade parents. The format is different from last year. All parents should report to their student's room at 6:30pm on the dot. At 7:00pm all parents will be asked to meet in the theater space for presentations by the specialists. Then at 7:30pm Alli Lubin invites all interested parents to the Tech Lab. She will take parents through the TGS web site and discuss how to access various areas of the site. If there is time she will demonstrate some of the programs students are using in their tech classes.

Student and Parent Handbook Focus

Student Harassment, Hazing (Bullying ) and Other School Policies

Our Student and Parent Handbook under Section 8: School Policies (page 30) speaks directly to Harassment and Hazing (Bullying). There are also policies and guidelines in this section that refer to Computer/Internet Use, Tobacco, Drugs and Alcohol Use, Weapons on Campus, and Fundraising.

The policies on Harassment and Hazing (Bullying) were adopted in 2001 and 1999  and are used by the school to monitor, report and act on prohibited conduct. These policies are very specific and I suggest if you have any questions about the school's position on issues of student harassment or bullying that you refer to these documents.

An additional Student Harassment Policy was adopted at our last Trustees meeting. It is the model recommended by the Vermont Department of Education and is entitled "Policy on the Prevention of Student Harassment." This will soon be added to our Handbook. I will be asking the trustees to review the current policy on "hazing (bullying)" in the near future.

The Parent Handbook can be accessed on our Web Site via the Parent Resources Link.
