THANK YOU - all so much for the wonderful celebration of my retirement last Friday night.  I was so happy to have the party in combination with the dinner/auction.  It was a true celebration of TGS also, and I heard from someone outside TGS that it was the best silent auction she had ever been to.  My bench looks lovely on my tennis court,  now I can sit as needed, but your kind words and good thoughts will stay with me as I start a new chapter of my life. Thanks again, Marcia

GRADUATION - The eighth grade graduation will take place in the auditorium on Friday, June 12, 2009.  A pre-ceremony reception in front of the main building
will begin at 4:30 pm followed by the graduation at 5:00 pm.  The ceremony is expected to end at 7:00 pm.  All are welcomed to join the festivities.

TGS ART NEWS - Seventh Grade Shadow boxes are exhibited at The New England Youth Theater.  Stop in and see these Joseph Cornell inspired boxes.  The featured artists are: Isak Saaf, Sam Spanierman, Grace Voorhees, Roo Weed, Alec Ray, Addie Mahdavi, Olivia Diorio, and Anton Wozniak.  Look for the boxes in the lobby.  Stop in after the cow parade.

Also, the Eighth Grade retrospectives go up this week.  Come and see their art work as it has progressed over their time at The Grammar School.

Finally, look for student artwork to go home the final week of school.  I will give your child's work to his or her classroom teacher.  You can arrange with the teacher for pick up.

Have a wonderful end to the school year.
Yours, William

NEW CLASS PARENTS - It is time to organize NEW CLASS PARENTS for the 2009-2010 school year.  I will be calling parents in every class to encourage you to support your child's class and teacher next year.  This is not a big job, although there are increased obligations in the Upper School.  Some years two families have taken on this responsibility for 7th and 8th grades.  I will be calling families over the next several weeks, BUT if you would like to volunteer to be a class parent please give me a call, 802-387-5364 ext 105 or an email maleader@the grammarschool, org and let me hear from you.  Marcia

SUCCESS! T
he Annual TGS Spring benefit " 'Til the Cows the Cows Home" was a terrific success! Thanks to all who attended, those who bid and those who spent the past several months working on this "fun, fundraiser." After expenses we boosted our parent fundraising by nearly $15,000. The food (Elizabethan Fare, Boggy Meadow Cheese, Shin La, Sarkis Market, Grafton Cheese), music (BroadBand, Jared Stolper), locale (Alyson's), and auction items (Ned Childs) all contributed wonderfully to this very important event. For those of you unable to attend, be sure to come next year! A special thanks to all those who donated items, the class parents for their work on class projects and the core committee of volunteers (Lisa & Jared Stolper, Jaja Laughlin, Jennie Freeman, Karen Shapiro, Poppet Boswell, Natalie Thomson, Elizabeth & David Warner, Kelley Aither, Heather Koledo and Barb Silbey) as well as last minute helpers including the Howe Family. An extra special thanks to Mark Green and Kathleen Hathaway for overseeing the entire event! And finally, congratulations Marcia Leader!

TGS RECEIVES $20,000 GRANT FOR VISITING ARTISTS!
- We are currently working on a larger press release but we would like to share that The Clowes Fund has generously granted a two-year $20,000 grant for visiting artists. William is working steadfastly on maximizing this wonderful gift so that your children will fully benefit. Stay tuned for more details and congratulations TGS! Special thanks to The Clowes Fund, Mark Green, William Chambers, and Heather Koledo for making this wonderful gift happen!

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE!
-
All library books are due in the library this Friday, June 5th.  Overdue notices will be distributed again this week. While we do not charge fines, a reimbursement fee must be paid for lost books. But, I'd rather have our books returned, so please search for them, make a game out of it. Books turn up in the strangest places...in the car, in closets, under beds, even on bookshelves. Thanks, Ponnie

STROLLING OF THE HEIFERS! -  If you would like to march/stroll with TGS at the annual parade in Brattleboro this Saturday, June 6th, please sign up with Darcy, asap!

For those of you planning to come, I think it's best if we take individual cars, as I imagine families will want to "do their own thing" afterward.  However, we are asked to enter the assembling area as a group (all children must be with an adult).  The parade assembles along Flat street, and I am told it is best to go down Elm (as a group) to Flat, and find a marshall who will direct us to where we belong.  Therefore, I would like to ask all who plan to "stroll" to meet at 9:00 sharp at the NEYT parking lot (I don't know if you will find a place to park there.)  Please bring your own water bottles, and don't forget sunscreen and a hat.  Everyone is encouraged to wear regular clothes and good walking shoes.  We will lend all "strollers" a one-of-a-kind hand painted cow t-shirt to wear!  At 9:10 we will walk to take our places on Flat street.  If you have a wagon, it would be neat to bring it along for your gear/child to ride in and feel free to decorate it!  We will be playing simple instruments.
Should you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them! Darcy dgibney@tgs-putney.org or 387-5364x200.
